Brandon and Bella seemed to be getting along well, which frustrated me.
He had the girl I wanted.
I cursed myself for falling for Bella. Stupid me, having feelings and crap.
Whatever. It didn't matter.
All that mattered was saving the wolf gods.
"So why are you out here?" I asked Brandon.
He seemed a bit startled by the question, but answered anyway. "I'm a tree nymph. I saw you guys and figured I should say hello." he gave an innocent smile, and I smiled back through gritted teeth.
Time passed, and Bella, Tyson, Jasper, and Alex fell asleep, leaving Brandon and I awake together.
"You seem to fancy Bella," I said to him, matter-of-factly.
He nodded. "But there's someone else of whom I like even more."
"Who?" I tilted my head, slightly confused.
He looked at me, his blue eyes shining in the moonlight. "You," he whispered, leaning towards me.
I pushed him away. "Sorry, I'm not into guys."
His expression turned grim for a moment as realization struck him. His frown slowly turned into a menacing grin as he inched closer to me.
"Oh, my darling. I don't care." He came closer to me, his eyes filled with lust.
I felt a growl come from my throat, and I felt myself morphing. I grew shorter, and white hair began to form all over me. As this happened, I felt my instincts change too.
Kill the nymph.
I howled, and realized that I had become a wolf.
Brandon screamed. "The Gift! I knew you five were different! You mutants!"
I pounced on him, my canines digging into his arm. I tasted a warm, metallic substance in my mouth. Blood.
His screeches pierced the air, waking the others.
I heard a gasp coming from one of the tents, and turned to see Bella looking terrified.
Brandon's gaze turned sinister. "You fools! You'll never defeat the enemy! He is what makes this world go round! You will all suffer the consequences!"
My teeth sunk into his chest, my growls becoming more intense. He screamed in pain, collapsing on the ground.
I felt myself become human again, and I wiped the blood from my mouth.
"Violet?! What the hell happened?!" Jasper yelled, sprinting over to me.
"Brandon was an enemy." I coughed, out of breath.
His words echoed in my head. Something seemed weird.
The Gift! I knew you five were different!
