The Castle

I saw a dark structure in the distance. It's pointed towers and obsidian stone walls seemed to have a dark aura surrounding it. Except it also seemed to have a light glow around it. As we got closer, I saw the details of the castle better.

The walls were black and glass like, with a small window in each tower, blood red curtains flowing in the wind of the blizzard. Silver wolves surrounded the perimeter, growling and barking at us as we got closer.

Each of us shifted form, becoming wolves as we stepped into the palace. Well, all of us except Brandon, who became a branch that I put in my mouth. The gray stone doors were open, allowing us an easy entrance. We morphed back into humans, surprisingly calm considering our situation.

"Brandon, you know what to do?" Alex muttered to him, her own voice shaky.

Brandon nodded in response, running off. "Hey Mortem! That scythe of yours is sooo 200 years ago!" I heard him yell.

"HOW DARE YOU! MY SCYTHE IS COMPLETELY IN STYLE!" a raspy voice boomed, shaking the room. It sent shivers down my spine, my heart seeming to break. Old memories washed over me, leaving me dazed.

I remembered my brother's car bursting into flames, my father drinking himself half to death. My mother screaming at him, telling him she couldn't live with it anymore. I remember hiding in my room, avoiding them at all costs. I remember my dad's crying down in the kitchen as he finished off a bottle of liquor.

A black figure appeared before me, his face hidden by a hood.

"Ahh, Violet. Exactly who I wanted to see," he growled, his voice making me tremble.

"W-what do you want?" I asked, my voice squeaking.

The figure waved his hand, pushing my friends against a back wall and encasing them in some sort of invisible barrier. "Oh, nothing. I'm just here to remind you what a failure you are. Maybe it'll convince you to join me.."

"Huh?"

"Your brother is dead because you couldn't save him... Your parents... Oh, darling, they're hopeless. Join my side, help me slay the Wolves... And I'll take away your memories of your family. I'll keep you safe."

I felt my bottom lip quivering, tears burning my eyes. The memory of my brother's death played in my mind like a movie. A tragic, terrifying movie. But something seemed off..

The fire.. Something in the fire..
