Chapter 13- Sparks in the night

~ Chad's P.O.V. ~

Scarletie was full of energy this morning. I found her cleaning the fish for breakfast. She also helped me with building the boat. With both of our hardwork we finished early and too a break, together. I smile at my achievement. All the boat need is two days, not three!

We went inside the cabin for shade and to relax. Scarletie shuffles to the mattress and lies down , shutting her eyes. "What are you doing?" I ask her.

"Its called sleeping...." She answers, keeping her eyes shut.

"Get up." I tell her shd grab her hand, "Let us go for a walk."

I drag her out, as she complains. She says shes too tired, but I ignore her and grip tighter on her soft hand. I swing her hand around and walk in a slow pace with her. She stops in her tracks, holding me back making me turn around and look at her. She stares at me, as she growls underneath her breath, her face flushed.

"What are you doing? I said no.' She says.

Her hand is open, with only my fingers wrapped around her hand. I pout, "You stole my line.. What are you doing? You are supposed to wrap your hand around mine and walk with me." I tell her smiling, showing an example with my own hands. "That's how." I grab a hold of her hand again and wait for a reply.

She looks at me and pulls her hand free of mine, "No, I don't want to. Walk by yourself."

That stung more than a bee stings. I stand there unknowing what to do, but decided to change the subject to something less awkward then this. "Soo," I stretch the 'O' longer the it should be, "the boat is almost ready. You are coming with me, Right? Please come with me?"

"I already told you, I am not going to leave Sox." She says.

"We can take him with us. It isn't a problem."

"But I know he would not like staying in a boat for days, maybe even weeks. Also its dangerous. You have been making the boat out of tree wood and vines... I don't think thats strong enough for the ocean."

"I would make it safer. Please come." I plead.

She looks at me and frowns. I quickly stop my pleading. This conservation is worse than the other one about holding hands.

"Scarletie, is it okay if I ask you this one question?"

"Sure." She says.

I hesitate but let this off my chest, "Can you tell me about your Mother?"

She stares at me and turns around walking back home. I think I made the situation worse than before. She is completley ignoring me now. Why can't she just tell me about her Mom? The whole time while she was ill I heard her cry out "Mother" maybe a twenty-something times.

Where are her parents and how did she end up here all alone? Even though she is a witch, witches still have parents. Is it possible that she was dumbed here and abandoned? Or maybe she ran away? She is so complicated and so mysterious!

"Scarletie..." She stops willing to listen, "I would not ask you that question again. So, please, don't be mad at me."

"I am not mad at you, I am just..." She sighs and looks away, "...tired."

It was obvious that she is lying, she didn't even look me in the eye, but I let it slide. We head home early than we had ever did, but it wasn't that bad because the next few minutes we entered, sheets of water poured from the sky.

The rain pounded on the roof and it felt as though the roof would collapse on us, but Scarletie promised it wont. Water seeped through many cracks in the ceiling. Which made the floor of the cabin wet with puddles. I placed jars underneath the leaks, but it quickly overflowed. So we slept on the ground and I tried the best I can to sleep through all the noise. It took a while but I finally managed. I layed back listening to the drops of rain and the sound of our rhythmic breathing.

In the morning the puddles of water shrunk as the the sun got higher. During the afternoon I worked on the boat again and secured it as best as I could and looked back at the "master peice". Home is closer than I thought.

I smile at that thought. Home: where my warm bed is, clean clothes are, clean drinks, and deliciouse food. My mouth starts to water as I daydream myself eating a roasted fat duck, fluffy crunchy toast, with crispy fried potatoes and buttery corn.

Today for dinner we where lucky enough to catch one fish have to share. The catch wasn't as great because the fish were to deep from the bad weather of last night. To make matters worse it started to sprinkle on us throughout the day.

We gathered as much plants we could before the rain hardened and rushed in minutes before it started to pour. I held the nuts and apples while Scarletie had the fish, laughing hard that it rained on us making us soaked.

I watch her laugh. Her eyes get small and a musical sound of her laughter rings. I smile at her and when she noticed me looking at her she stops laughing and blushes. I laugh even more and she goes and punches my shoulder teasingly.

We ate soup in the darkness, the rain got light enough for us to start a fire. The light flickers across Scarleties featured and her hair glow brighter. She's beautiful.

We finish eating and lay by one another. Our skin touching. The storm had died down and the air is thick and chilly so I hold her in my arms warming her. She gets stiff, but then she relaxs and doesn't push me away. mattress by hers and I felt her get closer to me. She yawns loudly and I slip one arm underneath her head and another around her waist.

I hold her chest to mine, her face close enough for me to see every freckle on her face. Scarletie opens an eye, "This is comfy.." she says and closes them again.

"You're beautiful." I say and she reopens them.

"What?" Her face scrunches up.

"Stay still. Dont say anything." I responded.

She breathing gets faster and I place my hand on her chin. I brush my thumb against her cheek and bring my gave closer pressing my mouth against hers. Sparks begin, but they stop as she pushes me away.

"What was that?" She hissed at me as she touched her lips.

"It's called a kiss, Scarletie. I- I like you, a lot. And I want you. No I need you to come with me when I leave."

She looks at me and in the darkness her eyes glitter. She sighs, pulling away from me and shuts her eyes, "I don't think I can..."
