♥ Luke ♥
"Luke, did you get the coördinates?" Luke looked up, seeing Calum approach him. The dark haired boy always did this, whenever there would be a new one in their area.
"Of course." The blonde responded, looking down at the crumpled piece of paper in his hand. He was already busy to move the simulator to the given coördinates.
"I see," Calum leaned on the control board, there were there weren't any buttons he could accidentally push.
"Did you already find yours?"
"She's not ready yet, but some kids just get born earlier. She'll be fine though." Calum mumbled, watching the images flash by as Luke steered it to the right place.
The blonde finally reached the hospital, a small bit of relief invading him. At least he would have someone who was already dying. He always kind of hated taking someone who was nowhere near that, but he had to. It was his job.
Calum, on the other side, had it easier, being the 'Lifegiver'.
Of course there was the exception were a newborn had to die during birth, or even while still inside the mother. That was horrible for both, because Luke had to take the unborn child, while Calum missed out on giving it a life.
But, they had peace with their jobs, not necessarily liking everything, but it was okay. After all, it gave them life.
"It should be this room," Luke muttered -mostly to himself- as the simulator projected the room. In it was a boy with a beanie, sitting on his bed and making faces to himself. That was, until someone entered the room.
The boy that entered had colourful hair, both boys watching the scene with interest.
"He doesn't look... on the brink of death to me." Calum frowned a little, watching the boy on the hospital bed become all happy once he had company. "Neither of them do."
What was funny, was how much energy suddenly seemed to be in the room. So much, that even Luke and Calum could feel it through the simulator.
The two talked, Luke frowning as the beanie-boy (also apparently known as 'Ash') took off his beanie to show his short hairs. The other boy ('Mikey') smiled, making Calum tilt his head to the side.
"Cal, maybe you should-"
"I'm staying. I know the rules Luke, just like you do." Calum countered, mumbling as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Whatever," Luke mumbled, looking at the two boys in front of him. 'Ash' was giggling softly, looking at his friend and asking him how he was. Which was funny, considering he was the one in a hospital bed.
"I admire his energy," Calum said, pointing slightly at the boy in the bed. Luke frowned a little, nodding. Surely neither of these boys could be the assignment, right?
But as he checked, he found out that the boy in the hospital bed was definitely his assignment. And boy, for once did he feel like he really did not want to do his job.
'Ash' sighed sadly, before perking up and rambling to his colourful haired friend.
Luke and Calum stayed silent, forgetting to focus on the matter at hands and just watching the scene unfold. It was weird, because neither had really encountered such a thing in their... well, let's say it's been about a century if they kept count correctly.
"Why?" Luke mumbled to himself, running a hand through his already messy hair and groaning as he looked down, closing his eyes.
"What do you mean?"
"Obviously that boy can't be the one to die? He just recovered!" Luke pointed to the boy that was holding his hand out to the other boy. "I can't just do that?"
Calum looked at his friend in silence. "Luke, you know you can't get out of it."
"I just... There is no reason! That boy seems to have a heart of gold, if not at least silver and just- it makes no sense! Why?" Luke frowned deeply, tugging at his hair in frustration.
"Would it help you if you find out why?" Calum raised an eyebrow lightly, wanting to help his friend.
"But how would I? We can't do anything!" Luke grew more frustrated by the second.
"I know how." Calum said determinedly. "Without breaking any rules."

AN: Hello! If you're reading this (which I hope if you're reading this story (if anyone reads this story at all)), this is a quick note to tell you I will be updating this story twice a day until the 24th. I kinda wanna finish all my open stories before that, so I'll be putting out quite some chapters until then. After that, I'm not sure how the updating will continue, since that will depend on the time I will have.
Thank you for reading this (not only the story, but also the author's note) and hopefully you can keep up with the updates and don't get confused.
Much love xx
