"Oh come on, Kief..."

I was rushed to the hospital after I landed badly on my foot while on practice. Basketball season is about to start in a few weeks and this happened.

I could still walk but there is that slight sting when I put pressure on it. Nothing much, but we have to be sure.

And since I now have the habit of being clingy and annoying, I called up Alyssa, asking if she could come and pick me up.

She could not believe what I've gotten myself this time. She thought it was a joke at first, and right now, she's at the door, waiting for me to be dismissed by the attending physician.

Her 5'9" frame looks so fragile and dainty, and I could not help but smile at the way she furrows her brows together in concern.

"Of all the days to get a sprain...," she complained.

"Are you trying to get a good berating at me?" I asked.

"Ay hinde...," she rolled her eyes. "Nasaktan ka na nga at lahat, then I have to make you feel bad? Kase naman, yang paa mo 'di marunong lumugar. Tuloy, nagkakasprain siya ng kusa."

"You know what? I'm gonna think that you are so concerned of me, that's why ganyan ka maka-react," I said, pulling my feet together, careful with every step.

"And you know what? I really hope mag-iingat ka. Maraming nakasandal sa 'yo sa team mo. They can't afford to lose their team captain before the start of the games," she said, with much emphasis on every word.

"Ly, stop. Chill. 'Di ko 'to ginusto, okay? Relax," I said, trying to massage her shoulders.

She shrugged them off, irritated, "Alam mo, I'm just concerned. Minsan lang sa buhay ko na nagiging concerned ako sa -"

I grabbed her arm to face me, with enough force to make her face me, "Sabi ko na nga ba e...That's why I love you."

She looked confused, then incredulous the next moment. "Kief, you can't be serious?"

"Yeah, I'm serious... seriously in love with you," and I reached out for her hand.

She pulled away, and covertly looked around, "Stop, Kief..."

"Kinakahiya mo ako?" I teased.

"Kinakahiya ko ang pagiging touchy mo. Kief naman... I'm not comfortable with you and me, holding hands like a couple..." she said a little softly.

"Then hold my hand like how you used to, as your best bud," and offered her my hand.

She bit her lower lip, thinking, and eventually, with tentative movements, reached for my hand.

And I didn't realize that I was holding my breath until our hands touched. Then I began to breathe normally again.

It's really annoying when people try to jump into conclusions. Like how they misjudge some people just because they see things differently.

Like how they are expecting me to fail just because I've been accepting offers for endorsements as well as guesting and such.

I couldn't blame them, though. And I want to believe that they just want the best for the team, that with me focusing on the game would secure our chances of winning the plum.

"Besh, move over a bit, could you?" Amy said, squeezing herself in between me and Ella, breaking my reverie. Ella and I immediately moved a bit to give space to Amy.

"Oh yeah! Foodie!" Amy declared and started digging on her food.

"Amy, dahan dahan lang... as if tatakasan ka ng pagkain mo," Ella remarked.
