When Leonardo entered the Battle Shell, everyone got to their feet. Donatello turned off the truck and rushed to the back where we were, throwing his arm over his older brother's shoulder with a relieved laugh.
"Good to see you, Leo!" Michelangelo said happily while remaining in his seat because of his ankle. Like Michelangelo, Raphael should have stayed seated, but instead he stood, pulling me up with him. I almost wanted to demand that he sit back down because of his concussion, but all those thoughts left my mind when his arm slung back around my shoulders like before.
Red in the face, I almost didn't notice when Donatello spoke,"Yeah, we were all pretty worried." Master Splinter then decided to join us, stopping when he was in the front of our little semi circle.
"Yes, my sons." He said, nodding his head,"But now, you are safe." With that, he sent his arm out to back hand all of his sons, missing my face by mere inches. I couldn't help but flinch back when Raphael tightened his arm around me in his shock of being struck.
"Ow!"
"Hey!"
"What was that for?"
Splinter glared at his sons,"For being so foolish! You should have never tired to face The Shredded alone. He is too powerful." At some point in his scolding, his glare also landed on me, and I bit my lip in shame.
Don't freak. Don't freak. I told myself in my head, beginning to feel the urge to scratch at my arms. I wouldn't be able to, anyway, under all these layers of clothes I had on.
"You're telling me,"Donatello rubbed at his cheek still,"I've got bruises that have got bruises." Leonardo seemed to lean more into his purple brother's side, staying off his right side.
"And did you see the way The Shredder walked right through the fire?" The leader said in almost disbelief. I was in disbelief, letting a what? slip through my lips in a quiet whisper.
"That's what I'm saying, toots." Raphael quietly said back to me, being the only one that heard me.
The Shredder seemed to be invincible if he could walk through flames. At the thought of the brothers facing a being that could do that, I shrunk into Raphael's side, becoming scared for them. He didn't seem to mind my actions, running his hand up and down the side of my arm in some sort of comfort.
"You have stirred the hornet's nest." Splinter announced,"He will not rest until he finds us."
"What should we do, Master Splinter?" Leonardo asked, finally slipping out of Donatello's grip. I couldn't help but notice the tightness in his face when he steadied his weight. He was hurt somewhere, I concluded.
To our surprise, and confusion, Splinter ordered,"Let him find us."
I gulped. For all the talk of The Shredder being too powerful, and too much for the turtles, why was Splinter so quick to jump into battle?
"I have long wished to avenge my Master Yoshi, and now is the time." There it is. Master Splinter was out for revenge, his face became dark, and his eyes squinted in determination.
"But how do we let him find us?" Donatello asked, slowly sitting back down in the seat I was previously in. His eyes drifted to mine, to Raphael's arm around me, and then back to his master's. From behind, I could see his shoulders drop.
"Sit still." Master Splinter replied.
That automatically got Michelangelo back into his jokingly comments,"I don't know, Master Splinter. Sitting still isn't one of our strong points."
He laughed slightly, but when the old rat glared at him, he began to ramble,"Right. Sitting still it is. I like sitting still. Sitting still is good!" He leaned back in his seat, grabbing at his injury while he crossed his legs.
"Wait, what about Abby?" Leonardo brought me up causing all the attention to turn to me. My face heated up when they all looked at me, and I remembered I was still against Raphael's side with his arm around me. But to my relief, none of them pointed it out.
"Yeah, we've got to get her somewhere safe. She can't come to battle with us; she could get hurt, Master Splinter." Donatello said, still seeming a little down. I'd have to talk to the smart turtle later, I decided.
"Hmmm,"The old master thought,"She will stay here, in the Battle Shell, with the doors locked." He said, tapping his stick on the floor of the truck.
"But- I-,"I stuttered, stepping forward out of Raphael's grip,"I don't-,"
I lost my voice, my thoughts stuck in my throat. Raphael seemed to thing something was wrong because he spun me around and kept his hands right bellow my ribcage, holding me an arms length away from him.
"What is it?" He asked me, giving me a concerned look much like he did with Michelangelo earlier that night.
"I- I just-,"I stuttered, slumping my shoulders,"Just don't want to lose anybody else. Don't want to be alone." I muttered, letting my brown tangled hair fall in my face.
"Abs..." He trailed off, not knowing what to say.
Quickly to take his place was Donatello, placing his hand against my back as he stood behind me. The grip Raphael had on my slipped away as I turned my body towards his younger brother.
This is awkward. I thought to myself. Here I was, standing between two brothers, while the rest of their family watched on with a sort of sad look.
"We'll come back, Abby. We promise you that, right guys?" Donatello proclaimed, turning his head to look at his other two brothers.
"Yeah!" The three turtles said simultaneously, and even Master Splinter nodded his head along with his sons. I let a small smile grace my lips at the heart warming feeling I got from this family.
"Come here." Donatello opened his arms to me and I couldn't help myself from drifting into his arms. My arms wrapped around his neck, my cheek resting on his shoulder, while his arms rested around my lower back. It would've seemed like a moment, but it never got to that point because Michelangelo decided to yell,"Group hug!"
And that led to the five of us standing in the middle of the Battle Shell with our limbs tangled.
