(Maddie’s P.O.V FYI)
Why did Fred have to die in the battle? Did that bookcase really have to have hit him?
Those thoughts swirled around in my head as I grieved for my poor boyfriends brother. I remember all the fun we used to have, all three of us together. Fred would always complain to me why he had chosen George over him. After all, my long blonde hair and bright blue cyan eyes drew any guy like a magnet to me.
George gripped my hand as tried to hide his tears. I wasn’t surprised that he would be very upset after his brother’s death, but that had been hours ago. Also, Harry had killed off Lord Voldemort for good. Shouldn’t he just forget about his dead brother for a couple of minutes and join the party?
I grabbed George’s shoulders and faced him.”Look George, I know you’re upset of what happened to Fred, but can’t we put that behind us and think and join the party? I heard there are boxes of firewhisky hidden by Molly up in the attic.” I winked at him, hoping it would lighten his mood.
He gave me a teeny smile and shakily stood up.” OK Maddy, I guess you’re right. We shouldn’t be missing out on the party the Order Of The Phoenix and the rest of the Hogwarts students are holding.” I smiled at him and gave him a small kiss. I knew he would lighten up!
“That’s the spirit!” Exclaiming happily, we opened the door leading to outside.
The burrow’s backyard had been transformed into a twinkling heaven. Lights covered nearly everywhere, and enchanted fireflies spelled out “Thank you harry!” over the entrance to the same tent that had been used for Bill and Fleur’s wedding. Everyone wore their best dresses and robes, almost as if this were a fancy gala instead of a thank you party.
I smoothened out my red chiffon dress I was wearing and looked at George pointedly. “See? This is what you get for ignoring your brothers death for a bit. Doesn’t it look so beautful?” I asked him kindly.
He nodded and then pointed towards the sky.” Look! Father’s obsession with muggles still isn’t over!” Fireworks cascaded down in sparkly pairs, and had been jinxed to make Harry’s face. Everyone looked up and cheered.
I held hands with George and sighed.” This reminds me of the 4th of July,” I sighed happily.
“What’s the 4th of July?” George asked, confused.
“ It’s this American holiday,” I explained,” It’s when they won their independence from us English folks. They set off so many fireworks that day, and many couple kiss under the fireworks.”
George nodded and prodded me with his shoulder. “So all couples kiss under the shiny lights, eh?”
I nodded, kinda knowing where this was going. “Well, I think so. After all, I visited America a long-”
George grabbed me in a sweet and passionate kiss before I could continue. His lips were perfectly synchronized with mine, moving to the same rhythm as our pounding hearts. We landed together on the floor, careful not to hit anyone. We just rolled around in the grass and made out for a long time.
Finally we got up and dusted ourselves off. My dress had ridden up high on my thighs, and my bra was peeing through the red lace decorating the top of the dress. I fixed my dress, and shot George a smile. I leaned in to kiss him again, but George stopped me. Instead, he spoke in a high and demanding voice.”Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please?”
Everyone turned around, assuming that George was going to make a speech. Starting out, he did.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I know that this has been a sad and eventful day. Your loved ones have been injured or killed by Voldemort, some of you fought the battle at Hogwarts, and Voldemort has been destroyed.” Many people cheered and clapped about Voldemort being dead, but George stopped them.
“Look, even though this party is for Harry and his amazing bravery, I also want to say something that doesn’t pertain to him.” He flashed a quick apologetic glance at Harry’s direction, but Harry gave him an “It’s cool” smile back.
George carried on with his “speech” . “As you know, Maddy Gordan and I have been dating for years. We have grown close, like two peas in a pod, and I wanted to tell her something.”
George faced me and smiled. He slowly got down on his knee, and I gasped loudly. He retrieved a box from his pocket and opened it. Inside, there was a silver and sapphire clustered ring nestled between its folds.
“Maddy, will you marry me?” He asked sweetly. I jumped into his arms and nodded like a mad woman.
“Yes!!!” I screamed happily and kissed him a million times.
Everyone smiled and applauded for us.
George had been right. This day had been eventful.
