Chapter 3
Iden's POV.The bell rang and as I turned in my History Test. With a sigh of relief,I turned on my heel, grabbed my bag, stuffed Inkheart into it,and went for the door.
"Miss.Armstrong?"
I turned the knob.
"Iden!"Mr.Seirman said louder.
I turned around,"Yes?"
"You forgot to put your name. And don't ignore me."
"I didn't?"I said fully turning around.
"Don't back talk!I called your last name but you keep going."
I chuckled slightly,"Funny story.My last name isn't Armstrong.It's Winchester.After my dad."
"I've ever met your dad at a conference."
"Oh,"I said,"I've never met him.Mom said he had a job to do and thought it'd be terrible to stay with a family and never be there. So Mom gave me this necklace he used to wear,"I reached for my neck and went pale"It wasn't there,"Oh,my God."
"What was that?"
"I left it at home,"I went paler.I whispered,"I've never done that."
"Well, keep up with your things,Miss Winchester."
"Will do,"I turned around and opened my door to a hall full of kids.Since my history class was an hour and a half long I had a 30 minute break in the library for home work and studying before lunch.I made my way to the library,my favorite place in the whole school. One time,I had met a boy by the name of Peter there. We're now friends and sometimes walk in the wood and quiz each other on books and talk about life.Sounds like a perfect couple? No.Peter's family was strict.Went to church every Sunday and Wednesday, listened to Christian music(Unless Peer was with me,then we rocked out),no dating till out of college, bad grade you get a lash with the belt.It was hard for Peter. He wanted to tell his parents the things he liked, but couldn't.That's why I was nervous to meet who my real dad was. What if he was strict?
I shook the thought away and entered the library.Peter was there and waved me over to a bean bag. When I sat down he started.
"What's the capital of Spain?"
We were reviewing from fifth grade,"Madrid."
"Hey,"he pointed at my neck,"Where's your necklace? You know, that one on the black string with the weird head."
"I forgot it at home,"I said quietly.I still couldn't believe I had.
"Oh,"he looked away,"Not like you..."
"Exactly!"I threw my hands out toward him.
"Miss Winchester,"the librarian looked at me.
"Sorry."
The librarian was the only person who called me by my real last name the first time.It was nice,actually.*30 minutes later*
The bell rang and me and Peter grabbed our many books sprawled across the table. We walked down the hall together and turned the corner that led to our lunch room.
Helen was already waiting by the door and was pacing, most likely humming to a song by My Chemical Romance or Green Day.
"Helly!"I waved and Peter walked toward his group of friends.
"Hey,"she opened the door for me and walked inside,"Jerusha had to stay in her class to finish some work."
"Ok,"I said, grabbing the sack that he'd my lunch out of my bag.
"Where's your-"
"Left it at home.I know not like me."
"Also not like you to space off,"Helena said curiously.
"I forgot my necklace before I saw the man with the same facial features and taste in music.
"Ok,"She shrugged,"Just saying..."
"Well,stop 'just saying,'"I said.
She took a bite of her sandwich.
"Oh!"I perked up,ready to change subject,"Wanna come over to study tonight?"
She went pale,"Can't.Busy."
"You're always busy,"I said with my whiny voice.
"It's not my fault."
"I just...wish you could come over more. You've been my friend...how long now?"
"3 years."
"Yea,and you haven't been over once,"I held up one finger.
"Sorry,my dad is always traveling and says not to go to anyone's house.I'm just following rules."
"Yes,I know and I respect that, but just once, could you come over?"
"I've already asked Dad.He said no.Real sorry,Rocker,it's just my dad."
I sighed and took a bite out of my banana,"Ok.I understand."
"Good."
We ate in silence the rest of the lunch.
