Chapter 14
Iden's POV.

Pet was sleeping on the ground beside me.Me and Pet had grown close over the few hours we had talked.I already knew I wouldn't grow a good liking to Hopper and me and Brainy would be friends.

The sun was coming up,casting a nice purple across the sky.It was light enough for me to read.

I took the book Sam had given me a few nights before.John Winchester's journal.I knew I had no right to take it and they probably needed it,but they've most likely read through this a million times.

It was very interesting and taught me pretty much everything I needed to know.

"What are you reading?"a voice said beside me.

I instinctively closed the book and whipped around.Pet was there looking over my shoulder.

"Were you in a cult?"

"What?No!"I said surprised,"It's...a book.Not really big and isn't topping any charts."

"What is it?"

"It's my grandfather's journal,"I sighed.

"So it's not even published?"she sat cross legged beside me.

"Y...yea.Exactly."

"Cool.My mom did something like that.It was like a scrapbook."

"How old were you last time you saw your mother?"I asked,brushing down her blonde,matted hair.

"5."

"Oh,why don't you go back?"

"I can't."

"Why not?"I looked her in the eye,Green to brown.

"A child most of the time has 24 hours after they're kidnapped.I was kept alive for a year.Barely fed,watered,hair dyed,same clothes for a year,same dirty room,in a cage...,"she drifted off then looked at me seriously,"Zombie broke me out.She was stuck too,right across the cage from mine.She freed me and we ran away.We couldn't just go back to our families.Zombie's my only true family."

"Can I be welcomed into your true family?"I asked.

She nodded,"Sure."

I smiled,"Ok.Now what does a person have to do to get a shower here?"

She giggled and pointed down a slope,"Down there is a river.It's freezing in the morning."

"It's better than 2 boys seeing us nude,"I said grabbing her hand and getting up,"Come on."

We washed ourselves and changed our clothes.Pet had chosen a grey t-shirt with jean shorts,while I chose a black tank top under a plaid shirt with jeans.

I picked up our dirty clothes and turned around to see Pet half way up a big tree with a wide trunk.

"Pet!"I exclaimed and dropped the clothes,"Pet,what the hell are you doing?"

"Don't swear,"she scolded,climbing higher,"God doesn't like it."

"Well,I don't like little girls climbing big trees.You could fall,"I replied.

"I'm not little,"she whined as she settled on a branch,"I'm fine."

"Pet,get down here!"I shouted.

"Come and get me!"she taunted and stopped resting to climb higher.

My eyes instantly ran up the whole tree.It was huge!

"Umm...."I bit my lip,"Pet,please come down!"

"You don't know how to climb a tree do you?"Pet taunted.

"What?Why would you think that?"

"Because you're not climbing."

"Maybe cause I don't want to."

"Squirrel."

"Pet."

"Your name is Squirrel.Now live up to it."

I sighed,"Fine.I've never climbed a tree."

"Come on,just try it."

"Ok,but if I fall you're in so much trouble,"I laughed as I grabbed a branch and began to ascend up the tree.

Halfway up I began to enjoy it.I started laughing with Pet and finally reached her branch.She was rested close to the top.

"Hi!"she said innocently.

"You,little..."

"What?I didn't hear that?"she angled her ear toward me.

"Ugh,"I laughed.

Then stopped abruptly.The branch creaked.

"Uhh...Pet,let's get down..."

"Why?Are you scared?"she taunted as she climbed higher.

"It's breaking,Pet,"I begged.

"Oh,it creaks all the time,"she dismissed it,"Old trees creak."

I let out a sigh of annoyance,"Pet,really,what if we get hurt?"

"We won't."

I stood up on the branch and it shook more,making me squeak a little.Taking a deep breath,I climbed higher and higher,ganging up on Pet.

I grabbed a branch.It broke and I gasped.

"Pet!"I screamed.My fingers were slipping on the little branch that was saving my life,"Pet,please!"

"Oh,come on-Squirrel!Oh,my gosh!"she tried to scramble down.

"Pet,stop!"I shouted.

She continued her descend.

"Pet!"

She continued.

"Pet,stop it right now!"I shouted.

Pet stopped instantly,sitting on her branch,just looking at me.

"Stop,"I managed.

The branch bent more and I gulped.Pet moved to help me.My glare sent her back.

Then it happened.

My branch broke.

I went hurling down,hitting branches.I looked up at Pet as I fell.The look on her face was horrifying.She was disregarding my orders and climbing down hurriedly.

I hit the ground with a thud.The world drifted away,leaving me in nothingness.
