Chapter 13
Pet's POV.

Zombie walked back into camp with a girl that looked to be 10.She had her arms crossed and was rubbing her arms to keep warm.

"Pet,fetch a jacket,"Zombie ordered.

I smiled and scrambled to get a worn jacket.I tossed it to the girl and she caught it easily.

"Thanks,"she mumbled as she put it on and crosses her arms.

"Sorry,the zippers broken,"I apologized.

"No,it's perfectly fine.Better than what I had,"She managed a nervous chuckle and followed closely behind Zombie.

"So...is this like an apocalypse type thing?"she asked awkwardly.

"What? No,no.We have all just had a hard time and had to leave our families."

The girl looked cast a glance at me,"But Pet and Hopper seem young."

"Pet has been through so much we're surprised she's not in therapy. And Hopper,he was put up for adoption and left that.Come on,let me introduce you to Brainy.Brainy, over here!"

Brainy dropped the trap he was trying to make and jogged over.

I went back to my drawing in the dirt.

"Hey,"Hopper crouched beside me,"How you doin'?"

"Ok."

"Just...ok."

"Yea."

He grunted as he sat down,"So,what do you think about the new girl?"

I shook my head,"Don't know her well enough."

Hopper sighed,"Well, what do you think she'll be like?"

I grumbled,"If you wanna know so much,Hopper,go ask her!"

Hopper was always one to judge by a cover, while me on the other hand wanted to get to know the person before setting them in court.

I could hear Brainy trying to explain what he was doing with the trap. The girl sounded interested.

"Come on,Squirrel, this is Hopper. You've already met Pet,"Zombie brought Squirrel over to us.

"That's Hopper,"Zombie pointed at the annoying 8 year old beside me,"That's Pet.The one we're surprised she's not in therapy."

Squirrel chuckled,"I'm surprised I'm not I therapy."

We all chuckled slightly and Hopper left.

"Get to know Pet.You might like her,"Zombie said, going over to help Hopper practice a new way to jump higher.

Squirrel kept biting her lip.

"So,why'd you have to leave?"I asked.

She closed her eyes and swallowed a lump that was probably stuck in her throat.

"Oh,"my eyes went wide,"Sorry!"

"No,it's fine,"Squirrel chuckled,"I had a good friend like that."

"What was her name?"

"Helena. She was fun to be around.Understood you."

"Oh."

"Yea,and the reason why I left was...well a long story."

"I have time."

She explained her mom died then she went to live with her dad and then he was murdered. Then she ran away.

"Who murdered him,if you don't mind my asking?"

"A monster.A terrible monster I'm out to hurt in any way I can."

"I'll try to help,"I said.

"No,this is my problem. You asked,I told. Now stay out,it's best if you want to live. He's hard core and nothing can stop him. He'll kill his own people."

I gulped,"He sounds terrible."

"He is.He's almost to the level of Hitler psychotic."

"Hitler?"

"Oh,I forgot. You probably haven't gone to school. At my school they taught it,but not enough as I taught myself when I was your age and read a million books on Anne Frank. One time a kid came in with a project about the Netherlands and he pointed to a statue and said it was the Anne Frank statue.I said,"It couldn't be,Anna didn't die when she looked like she was 32.She wasn't even 16."

"She sounds interesting."

Squirrel chuckled,"She's like my role model,"then she whispered,"I'm not doing a good job of listening."

I rubbed her back,"You're doing just fine."
