I walk ahead, my mind wandering. Maybe I shouldn't have done what I did. Maybe I should still be waiting, instead of hiding, watching my old friends who believe I'm dead. Maybe.......
I adjust my bag on my shoulder. My feet feel numb from my fast paced walking. I sigh and think of my former friends. Will they except me? I suddenly feel the urge to NOT tell them. I think for a moment. I decide to change my appearance. I won't tell them, although it will pain me. That is, if I ever find them.
I dye my hair a dark red. My eyes get a charcoal lining. I pale my lips. If anyone asks, I'm Neela von Hexan. I sigh again and start walking.
My feet don't want to walk. I feel like I'm moving in slow motion. My mind is clogged with thoughts about my life a year ago. I'm glad I left the Nether. I'm ready to find my friends, even if I won't tell them who I am.
I... I just need to watch. I've kept this up for 9 months. When I heard the capital was going to be abandoned, I decided to disappear. I'll... Let them believe I actually am dead.
My feet follow a thin path of brush that looks to be a deer trail. I think about what might have happened to my friends. I hope none are dead... Besides Garroth. I'm startled out of my thoughts by a loud rustling. My eyes focus and I see a figure standing in the trees. I draw out Dante's sword. The figure doesn't move. "Well. Go ahead then! Come out!" I challenge. The figure steps out in front of the path.
"I'm no threat. I've actually been following you," he says. I hold the katana steady. "Why would you follow me?" He shrugs. "I know what you're looking for." I lose my breath for a second. "Don't taunt me!!" I say fiercely. "I'm not. I'm here to find the relocated capital, as well," he says. "Then... Then what's your name?" I ask. "Vylad Ro'Meave." My breath catches again. "Oh. I'm sorry," he says. "T-Then you are Garroth's brother," I say bitterly. "Yes." I sigh. "Well, then. I'm S— Neela von Hexon." Vylad nods, not catching my stutter.
We walk on together for a while. As it becomes dark, he stops. "We should rest," Vylad says. "I haven't rested since I... Got here a day ago. I'm not ready to yet. I have to find them," I say roughly. "Alright..." he says. So, we continue on into the dark woods.
After a bit, we emerge from the trees. Up ahead is a village. My heart leaps. Could it be them?! I pick up my pace and Vylad follows. We reach the entrance where a guard stops us. "Wait. Laurence!" he yells. C—Could that be...?! A man with brownish hair walks up to the gate. He's wearing the clothes I last saw him in. I try not to cry as I watch Laurence walk up. "Yes?" he says. "I—I-I'm Neela v-von Hexan. I-I wish to s-s-settle here." He smiles. "No need to stutter. I know I'm hot." I burst out in laughter, still trying to contain tears. "Same old Laurence..." I mumble. "What?" he asks. "N-Nothing."
He takes me to a guard station. "You can stay here until tomorrow. Then maybe we can settle you in." I nod in thanks, not trusting myself to say something without crying. Laurence gives me a room and leaves. I'm thankful. I sink onto the bed and cry. Laurence... Laurence.
