When the surrounding's became brighter, I saw a silhouette of a person.

Sebastian. I lost my composure.

"Sebastian!" I ran towards him and hugged him. It was the first time that I reacted like that to him. I was starting to calm down but when I saw him, I could'nt help but cry. He was surprised but instead of pulling me away, he gently patted my head.

"Lady Wrenise. I am sorry that this has happened to you." I burst out crying at his words.

"I-I'm sorry... I shouldn't have walked to school.....I should have waited...." I sobbed. The incident was really horrifying. The image of the man's body was still on my mind.

"Its OK. It's OK." He said. He looked around. He saw my pursuer. He paused for a moment then offered his hand.
"Now, let's get out of here" Without delay, we left the scene. In the end of the mist path, a black car was waiting for us. He opened the passenger door. I came inside and he proceeded to his seat and drove. The car was silent but my hiccups echoed throughout the spaces.

"It seems that the 'Calm' is over" said Sebastian while looking at the road. I sniffed.
"Calm? What's that?" I asked, curious. He paused.
"Before I answer that, Ms. Wrenise, do you hate Mr. Aki Ortiz?" My heart suddenly thumped.
"Wh-what?! O-of course I hate him!.... How did you know him?"
"Why of course I know him. He's your-" He suddenly remembered something so he stopped. It made me more curious.
"No, please never mind it." How can I never mind it?!
"What is it?"
"It is better if young miss doesn't know it" He said, his voice suddenly felt distant. His words made me shut up. Even though I rarely hear him talk, I can tell that the discussion's over. A ticklish object snapped my attention.

My phone was vibrating. I opened it saw that Nicole was calling me. I immediately answered.

"Nise! Where have you been?! I was worried sick, you know!" She shouted at the end of the line. I tried to hide my hoarse voice.
"S-sorry, something came up"
"Jeez... At least call or text me. Yesterday, you suddenly vanished and now today,... Ugh! How can you be so careless!"
"I'm really, really sorry." She became silent.
"Nikky?(Her nickname)..... I'm really sorr-"
"I got it, I got it already.... Jeez, Nise... "I heard her cry. She must have been really worried.
"But next time, if something's bothering you, I'm always right here" she continued. I smiled.
"Yup, we're best friends after all" I recalled how I fist met Nicole.

************

It was during our school trip in our seventh grade. We were assigned to be buddies. At first, it was really awkward because we don't know each other. Our strong bond began when we separated from our group when we went to a forest to take pictures of wild animals. We tried to call for help but no one responded. The first one to cry was me. I really hate the forest because bugs and insects were all over the place but Nicole comforted me. We talked about lots of things and we became close because of that. We walked until we found a river. We learned that by following rivers and lakes, they will eventually lead us to a community of people.

Before we reached the town, an accident occurred. Nicole fell in a deep crevice. It was a deep one so helping Nicole was very difficult.

"Nise! Nise! Help me!" shouted Nicole. I looked for a long branch.
"Nikky! Here! Try to grab on!" I reached the branch to her. When she grabbed it, the branch broke. At last, Nicole cried. It was the first time I saw her cry. Even in our classroom, she looked really happy. It's as if the one in our classroom was fake because her cries showed her true self.

I was now determined to rescue her. After some time, my methods were working but a growl sent me shivers. Nicole heard that.

"Wh-what is that?!" she asked, really scared now.
"I-I don't know" The growl came closer. I heard powerful footsteps coming closer to us. I looked behind.

A vicious, savaged, hungry wolf.

It looked really hungry. Its saliva was dropping like waterfall from its mouth. It's eyes were like a person who haven't eaten for a week. The way it looked at us was just as I imagined. It was looking for food - and the food was us.

Now my legs won't move. Before I lost my control of my body, I gestured Nicole to stay low. Nicole became silent. She knew that a hungry wild animal was the one who was making the noise. I tried to run so that the wolf will chase me instead of Nicole but my feet won't listen to me. I was about to die. I didn't noticed that I was already crying. I never would have expected to die soon, when I finally made a new friend.

When the wolf was about to leap towards me, I screamed. Then, a blinding blue light shone in my eyes. With the shock of being eaten, I passed out.

When I opened my eyes, it was dark and we were already at our lodge, with Nicole beside me, sleeping peacefully. I thought that it was just a dream but the bandage on my arms and legs proved that I was wrong. I saw our teacher, Mrs. Marta, beside us.

"You're finally awake!" she exclaimed. She hugged me tightly.
"Ouch!" I winced at my pain. She let go.
"Sorry, Wrenise.... Are you OK?"
"Yes, I'm fine. Is Nicole alright?"
"She's alright. Even though she received more injury, she's fine" I felt relieved. I felt a cold object touch my skin. I took it out.

It was a chain. With carved letters.

"What is this?" I asked Ms. Marta.
"It's not yours? When we found you outside of the lodge, that chain was already on your neck." I never recall owning something this simple.
"Oh, but I saw a boy left after I opened the door. It seems that that boy was the one saved you both"
"Re-really? Ms. Marta?"
"Hmmm.... Yes. I think that the boy's name was Jared Hudson." I was surprised. My childhood friend saved me.

*************

When I think about it, that was the incident when I first started liking Jared.

OK, continuing the story.

When Nicole woke up. She thanked me. She said that without me, she would've been killed.

The chain has been my life supporter.

I was embarrassed to confirm him if the chain belongs to him but if he wants it back, I will give it to him.

I owe my life to him after all.
