(Y/n) sighed and walked out of the house. She wasn't to certain if Maddy was truly nice to her or was just setting their "friendship" up. The air was slightly chillier than yesterday and the clouds were spitting blotches of rain down towards the ground.
She quickly ran across the street as a car horn beeped, causing her to jump up in surprise. By now, the rain turned into a light drizzle and only seemed to be getting worse with dark grey clouds rolling in. (Y/n) sighed and wrapped her arms around herself to protect her exposed skin.
The summer uniform wasn't really the best type of clothes to wear in the winter. A car honked its horn once more, causing the girl to believe that the car was trying to gain HER attention. Sure enough, a blue Mercedes-Benz pulled up beside her on the walk way.
The rear window slowly lowered as a voice called from the inside. "(Y/n)! What are you doing?! Get in!" By now the window had lowered to reveal none other than Maddy. "You'll freeze!"
"It's okay- I like to walk." She replied, shaking her head in disapproval. A voice from the front of the car called out to her.
"Sweatheart, just get in- no need to be so modest." Maddy opened the door and patted the seat next to her. Carefully, (Y/n) got into the car and shut the door just as Maddy tossed her school bag into the back of the car.
"So, how are you this cold morning?" Maddy grinned. (Y/n) just stared at her hands which were resting in her lap. She could have run the last three blocks and she would be at school, who knew how long this car trip would take her. She would surely miss her skype call with Hiro.
"I'm good, thank you for picking me up... Mrs Newton?" She exclaimed, shivering slightly.
"No worries dearie, Maddy has told me quite a lot about you, She said how you were really nice and stood up for her yesterday- is that true?" (Y/n) nodded.
"It was nothing."
"Nothing? Dude! You like, saved me from a detention against my record at school!" Maddy exploded.
"Like I said, it was nothing..."
"Oh! I know why you are quiet!" Maddy exclaimed, causing (Y/n) to become curious.
"And that would be...?"
"You are worried we won't make it in time so you can call your friend! And like I said yesterday- I brought you this!" And with that, Maddy pulled out a shiny laptop out from her bag. (Y/n)'s eyes widened at the sight of what was assumingly a very expensive brand.
"Woah..." (Y/n) gasped.
"Here, you can have it." Maddy smiled. At her words, (Y/n) snapped out of her state.
"What?! No... I can't. It's yours!" She argued.
"What's ours? Oh the old laptop!? (Y/n) don't worry about it, it's old and we have no need for it! Please take it." Mrs Newton grinned.
Maddy handed the silver device over and started to explain how to use it. Being the genius (Y/n) was, she picked up quickly and started to fiddle around with it. "Also- this laptop is connected to my phone. That means it uses its own internet instead of the schools. I never use my phone's internet so you can use it for the laptop... Which means you can use skype in school!" Maddy beamed.
(Y/n)'s eyes widened. This was going to be her new laptop. The very item she was holding in her hands was now hers, something which she could never afford. "So, do you like it?" Maddy asked her, eyes shining with hope.
"Do I like it... I love it! Thank you so much... I have no idea what to say, really I don't!" She grinned, the gratitude in her voice making Maddy even happier.
