You swatted your mother's hand away from your hair,"Stop!"
"Please, let me help!" She pleaded and tried to get at your hair again.
"Mom, it's just a date." You rolled your eyes and laughed.
"Your first one! You need to look presentable. You look like you're twelve!"
"Geez, Mom. Thanks. FYI, I'm fourteen." Then, the doorbell rang. "He's here!"
Your mother clapped her hands excitedly,"I'll go greet him."
You sighed and took one last look of yourself in the mirror. You weren't wearing anything formal, just something casual.
"Y/N!" Your mom shouted from downstairs.
"Coming," you shouted back and quickly grabbed your bag. You jogged down the stairs and saw Vern, holding a bouquet of your favorite flowers.
His face turned red when he saw you,"H-hi."
"Hey," you smiled.
"These are for you," he smiled back and extended his arm towards you.
"Thank you! They're beautiful," you gladly received the flowers from him and handed them to your mom. "Ready?"
Vern took you to a diner. It wasn't expensive, and that worked for both of you.
After a satisfying lunch and a long walk at the park, the date came to an end.
"You know, I had a really fun time." You admitted and smiled.
"I'm glad, so did I!" He smiled back and slowly leaned in. You freaked out and hugged him before he could get any closer.
"See you later!" You said in a rush and pulled away.
"Uh, yeah, see you." Vern sounded disappointed and began to walk away. You took a deep breath and placed a quick kiss on his cheek, leaving him as red as a tomato.
