"Bye Winter! I'll stop by tomorrow on the way to the airport," Therese said as she blew me a flying kiss. "Oh and if you two ever get back together, remember to use protection. Wouldn't want the Princess to become prego before she's even crowned Queen."
She gave me a cheeky wink, went inside the car and left me looking like a ripe tomato. Nate was beside me the whole time and I couldn't help but be bothered by his laughs.
"Stop laughing," I said, my cheeks still burning.
"How can I? That was totally funny," he said.
"Shut up," I said and slapped his arm.
"Alright, I'll stop," he said and his laughter died down and we were left awkwardly standing in front of the doorway. All the guests have gone and I couldn't help but feel even more anxious because there was nothing to hide the awkward tension between me and Nate.
"So, munchkin, do you want to go somewhere and talk about... stuff?" he said, rubbing his neck.
"Aw is Natey boy nervous?" Alec teases and that was just when I realized he, Charles, Matthew, and my brothers were all there the whole time.
Nate closed his eyes in frustration and turned around to look at his friends, his hands in his pockets.
"I'm going to bloody kill all of you!" he seethes.
"Come on, let's just go," I whispered to him as I grabbed his hand and dragged him away. "I know a place."
"Use protection kids!" Alec shouted at us while I dragged Nate.
"You're bloody dead!" Nate shouted back.
"Yeah sure, mate!" Alec replied.
The boys' laughs died down as me and Nate ran further, me dragging him.
"Should I be scared?" Nate asked breathlessly.
"Very," I teased and laughed. He laughed as well and I stopped running.
"Where are we going, munchkin?" Nate asked.
"We'll just go through this window," I said and climbed outside, still dragging him.
"You do realize that we're on the roof, right?" Nate asked.
"Yup. I go here whenever I wanted to see a lot of the places outside the gates," I said, smiling at the memory. "Maisie used to spend hours looking for me and I would just be here."
I led him farther up on a flatter portion of the roof and I sat down, my heels in my hand and his hand in the other. He sat beside me and I just held his hand. He squeezed it and looked at me straight in the eye. I was just staring at him and he smiled dazzlingly.
"This feels nice," he says. "I like this."
He waited for me to speak but I didn't and just stared at him. He averted his gaze and for some reason, he managed to smile yet look so sad at the same time.
"I know that it's a lot to ask but I'm a selfish boy," he said and chuckled lowly. "If I had no guilt in me, I'd be asking you to marry me. Right here, right now."
