Chapter 17

*ROCKY'S P.O.V*

I sat with my family in the middle of Sapphire's penthouse. Ross and Saph got home from Michigan not too long ago, and Riker and Rydel said they had a huge surprise for the family. In fact, I didn't even know they left for Michigan in the first place, much less, got in a car accident. I clutched my pant leg. If Rikki has a broken leg and her face is a mess, then what does Sapphire look like? She was on the worst side of the crash, wasn't she?

"What's your big surprise?" Rikki called out to Sapphire who was hidden in her bedroom.

"Hold on!" Saph giggled. Ross was jittery, sitting on the couch next to ours. Rikki and Riker sat next to me. On the other side of Ross was our mother, father, and sister. Rydel kept bouncing and fidgeting. Whatever this “Surprise” was supposed to be, it must be a pretty big one.

“Okay……here we come….” Sapphire half whispered as she came out of her room. We? By we she means the baby in her stomach, right? Sapphire walked out from her room; well she defiantly wasn’t fat anymore. She smiled as she held a blanket wrapped in her arms, she had a few cuts on her cheek. Her entire hand was bandaged, right to the finger tips. She had a small limp, but otherwise, she was exactly the same.

“What’s that?” My mother asked. No sooner did the words escape her lips that she gasped. “I-is that…?”

Sapphire grinned and pulled down the side of the blanket, a chubby baby face brightened the room. I could feel my heart drop….The woman I loved has a baby. My little brothers’ baby.

I swallowed tightly as Ross put a hand on our mothers shoulder and said, “Mom, this is your new grandson, Asher Riley Lynch.”

Mom was choked up; she wiped a forming tear from her eye. “Can I hold him?” she squeaked. Saph smiled and handed him down to her. “Hi Asher!” Mom cooed to the bundle of blankets “I’m your grandma.”

Dad rubbed the side of Asher’s face, grinning. Sapphire sat next to Ross and he put an arm around her before kissing for cheek.

“Didn’t you get in an accident though?” My father asked. “Asher wasn’t due until your birthday, wasn’t he?”

Sapphire nodded, “Yes, I did get in an accident with Rikki. A drunk dude drove a semi into the passenger side of the car. I went right into a coma and Rikki broke her leg and messed up something with her back.” I gasped unknowingly and Rikki nodded as if she wanted to say something, but didn’t. “Something hit a blood vessel and made me bleed a lot so I had to be hooked up to a bunch of machines and stuff and-“

“It’s was pretty bad….” Ross cut her off, “she was pretty much bandaged head to toe.” Sapphire nodded for him to finish the story. Ross sighed and continued, I could tell it hurt him to talk about this. “I was there for a few days and met Saph’s family and all them and the doctor came in and said……we had to choose Sapphire or the baby. If she woke up before the next week, which she obviously did, they would have to induce labor on her so they could take care of her and Asher separately.  So, after the terrifying hours of labor, Riker came and got me to see my new son. 2 months early.”

“That sounds terrible…….but is he alright? Internally and everything.” Dad asked looking up to Ross and Sapphire.

“Yep, he’s completely fine.” Sapphire grinned proudly. “The doctors were surprised; he’s actually almost the size and weight of a fully developed baby. They did a bunch of tests and everything and he’s perfectly fine.”

“Well, that’s amazing. He’s absolutely adorable!” Mother giggled, handing off the baby to Rydel. Rydel held her brand new nephew and cooed baby noises at him.
