*ROSS' P.O.V*
"Your turning me into an insomniac, Saph." I chuckled. I leaned back in my chair looking at her, she hasn't moved. "I'm having trouble trying to sleep, counting sheep but running out. As time ticks by, and still I try, no rest for cross tops in my mind... On my own... here we go...." I sang. Green Day was always our common love in music, it was the only thing we could rock out to together. "my eyes feel like their gonna bleed, dried up and bulging out my skull, mouth is dry, my face is numb, fucked up and spun out in my room... on my own... here we go..."
I sighed, I wish she could of joined in. Like we used to...
"I love that song..." A voice smiled from the door. Ruby walked in and stood near me, looking at her sister. "I was the one that really got her into good music. Of course Shane helped, but..." She sighed, "I'm gonna tell you a little story, not a lot of people know. There once was a little broken family, 4 people were put together by the marriage of 2 parents. For years and years the parents were married and never thought of having another baby. But they did..."
I didn't know where she was going with this but I kept listening. "each parent had one child from a previous marriage and they wanted one to call their own. So they had a baby girl. But that baby girl, wasn't as perfect as they wanted. There was a big problem with the birth and the baby almost had a huge birth defect. The little girl knew this as she got older and said, 'I will die in the hospital I was born in.' and well," Ruby looked at me, "That little girl was Sapphire Bold."
"why are you telling me this....?" I asked quietly.
"If my little sister dies, I don't want you to be torn up about it. She lived her life to the fullest and she did everything she wanted to, and then some." She went back to staring at her sister, "I honestly don't know if she will make it."
"It sounds as if your giving up." I whispered. I grabbed Sapphire's hand. "I believe in miracles and blessings and that is what I pray will come."
Ruby was about to say something when I stopped her, "ever notice how Sapphire looks kinda like Uma Thurman from Kill Bill, but younger?" She nodded, "I have a feeling, Sapphire will be like Kiddo in a way. I just have that feeling..." I squeezed Sapphires hand tightly.
My heart suddenly skipped a beat. Her hand squeezed back?! I put my other hand over hers. And again, I felt a muscle twitch to life. I stared at her face, her eyes flickered. I was smiling, tears started to form. She squeezed my hand back and whispered, "Silly rabbit, tricks are for kids....." Her voice was raspy and worn.
"Sapphire!" I grinned and pressed my lips to her fingers, "Your alright!"
"Not really....." She croaked, "my throat hurts like hell and I can't feel any of my limbs.....Is the baby...alright?"
"Yes, yes. It's fine!" No words could describe how perfect this moment was. Doctors came rushing in then, yelling all sorts of things. They crowded around Sapphires bed and pushed me and Ruby away. Before I could protest they slammed the door in my face. I stared at the gray-blue door.
Ruby went off somewhere to deal with other matters, as I sat in a chair close to the door of Sapphire's room. I sat for what felt like hours, drumming my fingers against the chair next to me. I could hear talking and beeping and all sorts of things coming from Saph's room. I felt the nausea feeling again. I leaned forward in my chair and put my head in my hands.
"Hey, what's up?" Riker sat in the chair next to me, holding 2 bouquets of flowers. A bright magenta and pink one, and beautiful blue and turquoise one. He sniffled his glasses up onto the bridge of his nose and played with his beanie.
