Chapter Seven

I sat in my bed all night looking through the books, and man did I find some interesting stuff! Like I learned how to control chakra and I have been trying to flip the pages with my wind chakra, and it works half of the time, but I’m sure that’ll improve with practice. But now it was time to get ready for school. We only had one day off a week, and that was Sunday; yesterday. I closed the book that I was reading and sat it on the stack of my other books and got out of bed. It was alright if I didn’t sleep for a few days, but eventually I’ll get tired.

I put on my ninja outfit and put a kunai in my jacket pocket, remembering that Iruka-sensei told all of us to bring one to class today. After doing my hair and the hygiene basics, I went downstairs and decided to drink some blood so it’d replace my non-sleeping-ness and give me some extra energy. I also decided to drink four ounces because I haven’t drunk any for a while.

“Morning baby doll.” Mom greeted from behind me and grabbed herself a bottle of blood, drinking the whole thing.

“Hey mom.” I said and yawned. She raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.

“You are going to Maualei’s house after school today to get a haircut.” She told me and I groaned loudly.

“I hate that woman.” I muttered and she turned serious on me.

“Constantine, why do you dislike Maualei so much? Tell me exactly why.” She asked with a hardened face. I sighed.

“Why do you want to know, it’s not like you’ll believe me anyway.” I asked in a quiet voice and she sighed also.

“Because… because I just noticed something very recently.” She whispered and I started turning serious. Did she finally start to notice that that woman is off? That something suspicious is about her? That she acts like she is hiding something?

“What did you notice?” I asked curiously and she sighed again softly.

“I noticed that she has no heartbeat. And… and she reeks of dead people, a certain person that I well, killed.” She admitted and I gaped at her. This was huge! No way was I going to her house! She could kill me!

“Vampire.” I whispered, and she looked up to me wide-eyed.

“Do you think so? Well now that I notice… she doesn’t eat human food, she’s cold, and she never shows her teeth… you know what Taintie, I think somehow you are right. I don’t want you going to her house; Deidara will pick you up from school and take you to the hair salon.”  I nodded, happier that I didn’t have to see the person I hated most- Maualei. I looked at the time and sighed.

“I have to go, I love you mom.” I said and she grinned at me, giving me a quick hug.

“Love you too sweetie. And, tonight you are not staying up all night.” I laughed nervously and scratched the back of my head. How on earth did she know?! I ran back up in my room and grabbed the book I was reading last night and ran out of the front door yelling goodbye to Sasori. I heard a faint yell coming from inside the house, telling me to be safe. No doubt that was from Sasori, and no doubt that there was a hidden message saying not to talk to Henji Kiro.

When I got to the classroom, it was about half full. My eye twitched as I saw that all of the girls were crowding over my desk to talk to Henji. I sighed and slowly made my way over.

“Excuse me.” I said and they didn’t even glance at me. Simiko wasn’t in class yet, so I couldn’t just talk to him until the girls moved away. “Excuse me.” I repeated but a little louder. Yet again nobody moved or even looked my way. I started to get really irritated now, and I just resorted to yelling.

“IF NOBODY MOVES I’M GOING TO BREAK YOUR NECKS AND FEED YOUR HEADS TO THE DOGS!” I yelled and everyone stared at me like I had a second head. I smirked when their heartbeats accelerated. Slowly, one by one, the girls returned to their own seats. Well, other than the girl that reminded me of Pink Barf that had encountered me a few days back. In fact, she was sitting in my seat and batting her evil little stubby lashes at Henji.

“Please move.” I said icily and she looked up to me with a smirk.

“What if I don’t?” she asked at I huffed.

“I guess you’ll have to find out, but I throw out a hint, how does dragging you out of my seat by your hair feel?” I said in a sweet tone. If looks could kill, she’d be dead by now. Now she pulled on her poker face.

“Fight me for this chair, I win I get to sit here, you win, I’ll leave.” She said and I smirked. If that was what it took, then I’d do it. Now everyone in the class was watching us and the whole class was there- including Simiko who was watching with an amused expression.

“Fine, I’ll talk Iruka- sensei into letting us spar.” I agreed, setting my book down and went to his desk. He wasn’t paying attention to us this whole time so it was going to be easy. I cleared my throat and Iruka-sensei looked up.

“Iruka-sensei? Can me and uh…” I looked to the girl.

“Hina” she said.

“Can me and Hina spar? I think that it would be good for the class to see my skills because I am a new student and nobody has ever seen me fight.” He seemed to think about it and then he finally nodded. He led the whole class out to the training area and the class sat around in a circle surrounding Hina and I. Iruka-sensei went up to us and began telling us the rules.

“No weapons. Give me your kunai.” I took my kunai out of my pocket and gave it to him; Hina did the same. “And nothing that can damage the building.” He said and I frowned. I couldn’t do anything super amazing then! Oh well. Then Iruka-sensei stepped back and stood in between Simiko and Henji. If only he knew what we were fighting about.

I got into my fighting stance; it looked in between the traditional Hyuga stance and Rock Lees stance. Hina just stood there like an idiotic fan girl. I beckoned her to come and she charged at me winding up for a punch. She threw her fist at me in such a predictable way. I moved my head an inch to the left and she missed. I swept my foot at the pressure point behind her legs and she fell to the ground with a gasp. I thought I was done and began walking away but within a millisecond I got a whiff of her scent in the air and I quickly ducked to avoid getting kicked in the back of the head.

“If you are just going to do taijutsu, I will beat you easily.” I stated calmly while blocking about five punches that were recklessly flying at me. She jumped back and started to do slow hand signs and I sighed. “The enemy wouldn’t wait for you to finish.” I informed and started to do fast hand signs from the book I read last night. Sure, I’ve never done the jutsu, but I knew the hand signs so why not?

“Dust Wind Technique!” I shouted and I put my palms to the ground and moved them in a large circle. Like from the book, the wind picked up rapidly and dust was flying at Hina, who had just made a clone. She yelped and covered her face. I took that time to run into my dust and kick her in the stomach, sending her flying and hitting a tree.

“That’s far enough!” Iruka-sensei called and rushed to Hina to see if she was okay. I shrugged when he sent me a look and walked inside, ignoring all of the cheering for the class. I sat in my seat and opened my book to the page I was on. It was in fact the page that I learned the Dust Wind Technique on.

I pitied Hina, I really did. She probably had to go to the nurses’ office now and it was because of me. But it was her fault and she picked the fight, not me. But still, I didn’t have to be so harsh on her.
