It was an ordinary start to the day for her. She was a waitress at a diner in what she thought was a town that no one knew about. As usual, the damn toaster was on the fritz that morning. She checked to make sure no one was looking and with a small flick of her wrist, zapped some life into it. Yes, she was one of those. Not a mutant, per say. She wasn't born that way. She got caught in a lightening storm and this was the end result. She kept it quiet, not wanting the attention of the news and every other superhero group chasing after her.
Unfortunately, she was not going to have her way. The town she lived in was a border town between the United States and Canada and apparently the latest target in a superbeing war. The little town isn't as little as most would think. They had three story buildings and were considered quite large given their location.
Right in the middle of her busy lunch shift on a Wednesday no less, the diner is rocked with the sounds of explosions. Everyone rushes to the windows to see what's going on and low and behold, there's the entire Avengers team fighting off a small army. It was so surreal. She'd seen them on T.V. but never in person herself.
Of course, this sent everyone scattering all over the place as they got closer to the diner. She managed to slip out the back just in time. She might not like working as a waitress but if there's no building, she was out a job entirely. Her goal was to keep the building from crumbling.
She was doing a fine job at it too until she noticed red, white, and blue out of the corner of her eye slam into the tallest building near her. She wasn't sure why, but her instinct was to check on him, make sure the Star Spangled Captain was okay.
The building began to crumble and large metal beams were starting to fall onto the still recovering man. Her legs just moved. There was no stopping her at that point, even if she didn't want her secret discovered. Unable to stop, she began shooting bolts of electricity at anything too large for the Captain to handle.
She stood in front of him breaking large pieces of concrete, pushing beams out of the way. When the chaos finally ended, she moved to help the man up.
"Thank you, ma'am." He tipped his head in a slight bow.
She looked up at him. She could swear the man was over six foot tall and the camera definitely did not do him justice. He was built to the max and she found her mouth had run dry. She nodded at him. "Y-You're welcome, Captain." She watched as he blushed, not realizing she had purred a bit.
"You're not an Avenger.. How'd you do that?" He asked curiously.
"Oh, uh, I didn't. It must have been luck." A small explosion went off nearby and people were calling for him. "I-I should go." She turned to leave but gently felt his hand around her wrist.
"May I ask for your name, ma'am?" He asked shyly.
"Why? So you can report me to your leader?" She cocked a brow.
"Well, no, yes, I mean no." He shook his head.
She was enthralled by how soft his hair looked and stepped towards him. "Then whatever do you need to know that for?"
"So I know the name of the beautiful woman that saved me from a lot of pain." He smiled slightly.
She tucked a lock of her auburn red hair behind her ear as she looked up at him. "Well, just in case, Captain, you can call me Lectra."
"That isn't your real name." He frowned, staring into her vibrant green eyes. She could see the disappointment on his face and just couldn't have that.
"Then how about we play a game. My last name is Jones. You figure out the rest and try to find me." She smirked, pulling her wrist from him. The shouts for him were getting louder. "See you later, Cap." She grinned and took off, not wanting to be discovered by the others.
Steve Rogers gave a smirk. "Lectra, eh? Well Miss Jones, let's see who will win this game."
