Steve took a deep breath, managing to get ten minutes to rest. He stared at his phone and smiled a bit. It was Thursday morning, just before dawn where he was at making it just past 2:30 in the morning where Haleigh was. She should have seen Banner the day before. Taking the chance to let her know he was thinking about her, he sent a brief message.
How'd your appointment go?
He hadn't been expecting an answer. After all, she should be in bed. He rested his head against the wall where he sat. His phone lit up and he smirked, looking at it.
Stitches removed on neck and leg. Released back to a half-training schedule three days a week. What time is it where you are?
Almost six. What're you up to? You're usually in bed. He sent back curiously.
Experiment with Tony. He needed more power and I couldn't sleep.
He cocked a brow. Why not?
Because you're not there. Can you call?
He grinned slightly, tapping on the phone before lifting it to his ear.
Haleigh grinned as the image of Steve appeared across her phone. She instantly answered it. "Hey." She said simply.
"Hey." His voice sounded like gravel. It was clear how exhausted he was.
"You sound like shit, Rogers." She laughed when she received an audible snort.
"Yeah, well, I've been busy infiltrating a base. What else is new?"
She could literally hear the eye roll in his voice, making her smile smally.
"Hey, is that Capsicle?" Tony asked. He grinned when Haleigh nodded. "Lemme talk to him."
"Tony-!" She gave a sigh as her phone was ripped from her hands.
"Hey Capsicle! - I won't. - I know. - Yes, she's fine, I swear. - Yes. - Oh sure. I'll do that later for ya. - My back up generator needs worked on so she said she'd help. Now she's here all the time. - Yes of her own will. No I'm not forcing her because she controls electrical current." He grinned at Haleigh who just rolled her eyes. "About the other thing we talked about before you left. - Yes, it is. - Yeah, yeah." He chuckled handing the phone back to Haleigh.
"What was that about?" She cocked a brow, looking at Tony who just shrugged and continued his work.
"You'll see. Hey, I should get going. We're about to attack the last building. Should be home tomorrow, okay?"
"Tomorrow as in later on Thursday or on Friday?"
"Friday super early in the morning, if things go according to plan. You miss me, don't ya?"
"Shut up, Rogers." She huffed, earning a laugh from him.
"Try to get some sleep."
"You're one to talk. Be safe."
"No promises, but I'll at least come home, doll."
"Steven-" She groaned as the line went dead.
Tony watched her stuff her phone into her pocket. "You two argue like a couple."
"Watch it or I might just miss where this current goes." She glared.
He chuckled softly. "Come on, pumpkin, one more round of tinkering then you should get to bed."
