Dodgeball Probably Isn't Deadly

(Annabeth's POV)

Oh my gosh.

Percy and Leo have just started a partnership that will seriously ruin my education. Ugh, why are they so annoying?

It's unfortunate, because Percy is really hot. His jet black hair is so effortlessly stunning, and his sea green eyes are mesmerizing.

Shut up.

Anyway, I head over to my 2nd hour, which is gym. I meet up with my friend, Hazel, along the way. She's in my gym class.

As we walk into the gymnasium, I groan inwardly.

This class looks terribly unfortunate.

Percy is here, goofing around with Jason Grace. Some other jocks, such as Frank Zhang, Will Solace, Travis Stoll, Connor Stoll, and Luke Castellan shoot hoops at the end of the court.

Over in the corner, Piper McLean and her posse are talking in clumps, and Drew, her boyfriend Octavian, and her minions are along the opposite wall.

If Hazel wasn't here, I would be completely screwed.

Hazel plays with her ruby ring nervously. She has a crush on Frank, but I don't think he knows that she exists yet.

That's where I come in. I'm gonna help her out in any way I can.

"ALRIGHT, CUPCAKES, LISTEN UP!" The gym teacher shouts. "YOU WILL ADDRESS ME AS COACH HEDGE, AND ONLY COACH HEDGE. ANY FUNNY BUSINESS WILL RESULT IN LAPS, FOR THE WHOLE CLASS."

I facepalm. With Percy in this class, we will be running a lot of laps. Sigh.

"WE ARE GOING TO START SCHOOL ON A HIGH NOTE AND PLAY SOMETHING FUN. WE WILL TAKE A VOTE: DODGEBALL OR KICKBALL." Coach Hedge shouts.

This guy really needs to get a volume switch. It's like he can't talk like a normal person.

And, of course, neither of those games are very fun.

"RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PLAY DODGEBALL," Coach shouts, and every guy and half the girls in the room shoots their hands up.

"DODGEBALL IT IS THEN. WE WILL DIVIDE INTO TWO TEAMS. I WILL NUMBER YOU OFF."

After a long and unnecessarily complicated procedure, we are grouped into two teams.

4. Clarisse LaRue
5. Jason Grace
6. Piper McLean
7. Will Solace
8. Two more preppy, popular pose members.

Team B:
1. Luke Castellan
2. Drew Tanaka

4. Annabeth Chase
5. Frank Zhang
6. Octavian Octavian

Well, the teams seem even. I think we have a good chance at winning.

My team and I line up against the wall, and Hazel and her team walk over to the other side.

"WHEN I BLOW MY WHISTLE, YOU WILL BEGIN." Coach Hedge shouts as he dumps a bucket of balls onto the line that divides each team's sides.

"Wait, what if we get hit in the face?" Some girl from the other side of the gym says.

"YOU'LL BE FINE. DODGEBALL PROBABLY ISN'T DEADLY."

"BLEEEEEEEEEEEET!"
