Jacob's condition seemed to get worse over night. When I walked into his room, I was taken aback. "Jacob" I said his name sadly, I walked over to him and placed my hand on his cheek.I rubbed my thumb back and forth as he looked at me. I studied him, he seemed much paler than before and he had light bags under his eyes, as if he hadn't slept at all last night.
"How ya feelin?" I asked, "not good" he said with a shake of his head. "I didn't get any sleep last night, I was tossing and turning and shit..." He said quietly. "I... I'm sorry" I cried, "no, don't" he said when a tear fell onto my cheek. "D-don't cry" he said as he quickly wiped the tear away.I sniffed "Jacob, y-you've got to get better" I stated. "You've got today and tomorrow" he nodded a little "I know, I-I'm trying; I really am". I kissed his forehead "please get better" I whispered, I closed my eyes "please".

"Wait.... What does this mean?" I questioned as I looked at the doctor. "Well, Jacob's condition is going to get worse unless we find a donor" the doctor explained. "A donor? A donor for what?" Rayan asked, him and the others had arrived a while ago."Ever since Jacob has arrived here one of his vital organs has been slowly failing" "well then fix it, you can do that right?" Jordan asked. "Not unless we find a donor" the doctor stated, "well then w-what is it? A kidney? Because I give a kidney" Ray explained, he was absolutely distraught. I mean this was one of his best friends we were talking about.
The doctor shook his head "no it's a liver, and it's really risky to donate too. The liver's main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs."
"As it does so, the liver secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines. The liver also makes proteins important for blood clotting and other functions" he explained, "none of you can donate, well you can.... But you won't make it to see the next day. You can't live without it".
I could literally feel my heart drop all the way down to my feet. "In order for Jacob to live... You have to find someone who is willing to die to save him?" Shelby asked, the doctor nodded "that is correct, or we're able to find someone who has recently died and their liver is still in good use".
I looked at him, the look on his face told me there was more he had to say. "There's more?" I asked in disbelief, he nodded "sadly, even if we find a liver for Jacob, there's many tests that we have to do before we actually know if it's a match. Blood type, health history, stuff like that" I bit my lip.
"How long will that take?" I asked. "At least a week, maybe a week and half? If we had known sooner on his condition it would have been a piece of cake, most likely. I know I said he's got three days... But it may be a possibility that he'll make it while we're testing, but you have to remember we haven't found a donor yet".

I sat next to Jacob and without saying a word he rested his head on my stomach, I gently played with his hair. "I'm dying" he said quietly, "don't say that" I said firmly "y-you are not". "Yes I am, it's the truth, don't lie to me" he answered, "I'm dying and there's nothing me, you, or the others can do".
"The doctor said they're looking for a donor as fast as they can... But they can't promise anything" I stated, Jacob turned his head and looked at me, he gave me a faint smile. "I love you" he said quietly, I bit my bottom lip to keep it from shaking. I wiped at my eyes, I didn't want to cry right now. "I love you too Jacob".

"You're an idiot" Jordan said with laughter, "you know you guys like my joke" Jacob said as he looked around at all of us. I smiled, everyone was together having a good time even despite what was going on.
"What did the baby corn say to the mom corn? Where is popcorn..." Jacob repeated to himself, he smiled "you guys know you like it". I rested my head on his shoulder, I love him so much. He has to make it, if he doesn't I don't know what I'd do.
