"I'm so so sorry... I'm Sorry... Please don't get me rusticated... I'm sorry"
He took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry Ma'am, Galti se...Won't happen again." the boy stuttered.
He looked like a kicked puppy, his eyes begging for forgiveness.

"Ma'am? I'm ...I'm.. Wait.. What year are you in?" Sanyu managed to get her words out somehow.

The boy bit his lip " F..First year ma'am"

Before Sanyukta could say anything more the boy dropped to his knees and held his ears.

"Please don't report me. I'm sorry I knocked you over." he sounded like he was going to cry.

She felt a sudden sense of pity and guilt take over her.
The poor boy looked terrified out of his wits.
No one deserved to be in fear, not if she could help it.

"Um...I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going " she offered " Don't worry, it was my fault as well. I'm in first year too"

"You teach?" the boy's lower lip trembled.

Sanyu could'nt help it anymore.

"Look..." She huffed " I'm in first year. A student like you. So stop acting all ... all kicked puppy okay! I feel guilty enough."

The boy nearly sank to the floor in relief. "Thank God. Thank God. Waise... I'm sorry..don't take it the wrong way. You look too sophisticated to be a student." he ran his hand in his hair nervously " That came out wrong didn't it... I'm..I'm Sahil."

"Sanyukta" she didn't know whether to be amused at his clumsy yet adorable behavior or to be angry that he'd thought she was a prim teacher.

"Right.. So sorry again. That's me ... bumping into things. Perpatually clumsy when nervous. I'll try not to bump into you again" his smile was a little self conscious.

Poor guy.

Her stomach chose that particular moment to make it's demand for food known.
Like it too took pity on the boy infront of her.

"Do you know where the canteen is?" she looked up at him with hopeful eyes.
-----------------------------------

Not only did Sahil know where the canteen was, he also knew the best things to order.

He was sweet, but a little too helpful, and Sanyu had no idea how to deal with a boy, let alone one who was so genuinely sweet.
The only other boy she had really talked to was her elder brother Ankit.
And Ankit was anything but sweet.
Quite the opposite actually.
Sweet Sahil and Asshole Ankit were like polar extremes.

She waved goodbye to him and willed herself not to run to the canteen. She had to find Kaustuki first.

"Sanyu! Hey ! Woohooo Here!!"
She beamed in relief at her new roommate's familiar, cheerful voice.
The prospect of going alone and eating in the canteen was not a thing she had looked forward to.
It was odd. Made her feel exposed.
She hated it.

"Come on, get out of your dream world and let's eat" Kaustuki dragged her to the counter.

2 burgers and a chocolate shake later Sanyu made a mental note to had to thank Sahil for recommending the shake. It was truly to die for. Or kill for. Not that she condoned violence. But she might learn to. For the sake of the shake.

Kaustuki sipped the last of her strawberry milkshake and smiled. "I'd like for us to be friends. Let's face it, two of us against Miss Brat FITE gives us a better chance to save our sanity."

Sanyu couldn't help but chuckle. "Friends."

And just like that, she'd broken Principle 1: Don't get emotionally involved.
