Yes, it has been roughly a month since I last updated. I'm sorry for the long wait if any of you are still waiting. If you are, thank you.
At first, he ignored it. He put all his focus on the mathematical problem in front of him. Math made sense. Math had rules. Math was safe. Math was his escape from the prying eyes and questions.
He was used to the way it felt when someone had their eyes trained on him. Especially eyes that focused on him with the intensity of an X-ray machine. Aimed at getting under his skin. Becoming more of a hassle than the equation he had almost solved.
Only this time it was Sanyukta Agarwal's hazel eyes that were focused on him. Eyes that held a determination to rival Randhir's own. Determination that was the spark to the gasoline of his killer instinct.
The killer instinct that Randhir possessed made it even more difficult for him to ignore that girl. This had never happened to him before, this itch under his skin. Atleast not with a member of the opposite gender. Especially not with a member of the opposite gender, who by popular male opinion was one of the hottest girls in the college.
But it was not like he hadn't been stared at by hotter looking girls: girls with shorts and long legs. Girls with hourglass figures. Girls with fair skin and long hair. Attractive girls. Girls conventionally prettier than her.
And yet, no matter how hard he tried, he could not ignore the hazel eyed girl who was sitting next to him. Occasionally sneaking glances at him as if he was another problem she wanted to solve.
He'd always been good at tuning people who he didn't explicitly want to listen to or look at. And she was his only exception. His only female exception. To add to this, she was also one of the more attractive girls as rated by the rest of the first year male population. Attractive. It made him uncomfortable and uncertain.
He felt his chest tighten. 'In this case, there's only one thing I can do with this discomfort.'
He turned his head slowly towards her and looked right into those hazel eyes.
Face it.
He returned her initial stare with equal intensity if not more. The need to make her turn away overpowered even the need to show the teacher he was the first to solve the equation on the board.
Sanyuka's attention was for the moment on her notebook, her pen almost flying over the page. The look of intense concentration on her face made Randhir aware of the fact that she was not just a pretty face.
'She's not here to waste anyone's time. Especially not her own.' Randhir nodded 'No doubt about that, or her capacity to get things done. But her motive? I'm not so sure of that. And unless I am sure she won't be a disadvantage to the team by turning out like that selfish Sanyal, I shouldn't let Sanyukta out of my sight.'
Resolute, Randhir continued his observation of who he felt was the only potential competitor for the position of the Dream Team captain.

The equation was tricky, but not an impossible one. It just needed some out of the box thinking. Fortunately for Sanyukta, she was almost always thinking outside the box when it came to mathematical issues.
Unfortunately for her, someone else considered her an issue and she could tell.
'He's looking at me.'
Curiosity made Sanyukta slyly and discreetly take a peek at the person next to her.
Dark brown eyes meet her own. There was a tick in his jaw. And his eyebrows were slightly lowered.
