Miranda's pov

While I waited to go onstage to perform, the radio was playing Sam Hunt's houseparty and little CJ was dancing and singing along to it. Jason sitting beside me, a hand on my leg. "Yeah Sam definitely grew on him." I say, looking back at him. He smiles. "Sure did." The song goes off. "And now welcome to the stage the beautiful Mrs. Miranda Aldean!" The announcer shouts. I smile and stand up as the fans scream. "Looks like I'm up." I say. He holds my hand, pulling me back down and kisses me. "Knock 'em dead baby." I smile in our kiss. "Maybe I will, cowboy." I tap his hat over his eyes and walk onstage.

Jason's pov

I fix my hat as CJ climbs into the chair next to mine. "Hey New York City! It's great to see all a y'all!" I like how me and CJ have become a little duo onstage. "Hey daddy, what do ya think mom and dad are thinking right now?" I stare down at the very smart for his age four year old. "What do ya mean buddy?" "I don't think about them much. Is that bad? Would they hate me that I don't think about them?" My eyes go wide. "No, you were way too young to even know them. They don't hate you and if they could be here they'd be cheering you and Sissy on in the front row." He sniffles a little. "Come here." He sits up and I pull him into a hug. "There there buddy. Don't cry. You're mommy and daddy love you. Just like me and Sissy." "I love you too." He whispers.

*later*

Miranda gets out of the shower and lays down beside me. "Hey babe, has CJ ever asked about his parents to you?" "Not much why?" "Cause he was cryin' about them earlier." I tell her what he said and her eyes go wide. "Oh my gosh! How long do you think he's felt that way?" "I don't know hun but I talked to him. He's okay now." I pull her close. "I worry sometimes what if I haven't been a very good mother to him." "Don't say that. You are. You're a great mother to him. Just to take care of him, you did that stuff I don't like to mention." "Yeah let's not mention that." She says quickly. "Let's just sleep on it baby." I say, kissing her head.

*the next day*

We don't have a show tonight so we hit the sights of New York. We hit the famous boardwalk and I head over to get us funnel cakes while CJ and Miranda feed birds on a bench. "2 funnel cakes." I say. He rests a hand on my shoulder. "Welcome to New York." "How'd you know I was an out of towner?" He writes down the order and smiles. Probably the cowboy get up. He can probably tell. "I'm not doing that." He mumbles, confusing me. He turns around and gives the guy my order. I lean against the side of the wall, waiting. That guy is weird, the sooner I get my order and get outta there the better it'll be. Miranda looks up and waves. I smile and wave back. "Nice little family you got there." He says, only weirding me out more as he snickers slightly. What a weirdo! "Hey dude, don't punch me for this." Huh? I turn around. "What ya talkin' about?" He throws a pie in my face! "What the hell was that?!" I yell grabbing his shirt. "Wait, it's part of a hidden camera prank show!" He cries. Huh? "You're on TV right now!" I wipe the whipped cream off my face. Miranda and CJ walk over. "What's going on over-" CJ screams in excitement. Huh? "Sissy, put me down!" He whines. The jerk who threw the pie on me hands me a towel. "It's Murr from impractical jokers!" He gasps. "What's that?" I mumble, cleaning it off me. "A TV show I watch all the time." Miranda shrugs. "I've never seen it." "Hey little dude, what's your name?" "I'm not little dude, I'm CJ." He says, making me smile. "Hey guys come out and meet our youngest fan ever." A few seconds later, three other guys walk over. "Hi ma'am, nice to meet you." "It would be nice if you don't throw pie on my husband." She says, rather steamed. "You guys don't wanna get on the wrong end of a country girl." I say, crossing my arms. CJ must really love the show because he's talking nonstop about him. "Sorry we got off on the wrong foot. My name is James. I have to do what these morons tell me to do or I lose." "Lose what?" "The show. It is hard to explain. But you have one energetic son." "Yeah he's pretty wild. And apparently he loves your show." "That he does. Sorry about the pie, you can thank those dumbasses." "Whatever dude, where's my funnel cakes is all I wanna know!" He laughs and glances in the kitchen. "I don't really work here but I think the cook is almost done." CJ gets pictures with them and we get our funnel cakes. I wanna get out of New York soon." I mumble sitting down on the bench.
