*a few years later*

Miranda's pov

My alarm goes off and I quickly snooze it so it doesn't wake Jason. I smile at the sleeping cowboy, his hands together on his shirtless chest. I kiss his head. "Happy birthday cowboy." I say, getting up. I go downstairs and make breakfast and coffee. I hear footsteps. Oh I hope Jay didn't wake up yet! Thank goodness he didn't though because It was CJ who walked in. "Hey sissy, you know how to play guitar too right?" I smile and nod. "Daddy taught me some the other day. Why do you ask?" He climbs in a chair and whispers in my ear what he wants to do. I smile big and hug the little guy.

I got everything set up for the party. I made Jason stay in our room til it was ready. I walk to our room where he's standing waiting, a half annoyed smirk on his face. "You don't have to do anything for my birthday, baby." He says. I smile and walk over. "I don't have to. I want to." I say, wrapping my arms around his neck and kissing him. "Ok but are you almost done waiting like this is driving me nuts." He says, making me laugh. "Almost, Mr. Impatient." He laughs and kisses me again. We make out a little before Luke calls me. "Gotta go." I say, waving. I go back downstairs and his mom was just finishing icing the cake. "Oh wow that's beautiful." I gasp, hugging her. She smiles. "How's Jason?" She asks, teasingly. I laugh. "He doesn't like to wait. That much I've learned in the three years I've known him. My little six year old runs in wearing his stage get up. His cowboy boots clicking on the linoleum. "We're ready can I go get daddy?" I smile and nod. He races from the room excited.

Jason's pov

The door opens and CJ walks in. "Come on." He says, grabbing my hand. "Finally." I say, following him. "Buddy, why are you dressed like onstage?" He smiles. "It's a surprise. Hurry!" He runs downstairs and I follow him. Everyone is downstairs. All my work buddies, my drinking buddies, my family. THubb and Brian both hold whiskey shots. "Husband and wife shots." Tyler says, handing me one. "Oh no, I'm not drinking." She says, laughing. "Aw just one shot ain't gonna make ya tipsy." Brian says. She just shakes her head. I shrug and down my shot. Then mom dims the lights, confusing me. "What's going on?" I whisper to my wife. She smiles. "It's a surprise." She says, walking towards the center of the room with my guitar in hand. CJ walks over with her. Miranda gives him a mic. "Happy birthday dad. This song is for you." I sit in my recliner to watch. "When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new, it always winds up feelin' more like a job interview. My mama used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone that didn't find out about me and then turn around and run." Oh wow. He's singing Brad's he didn't have to be! This song has so much meaning for me. "And now all of a sudden aw it seems so strange to me how we've gone from somethin's missin' to a family." Brad pats my shoulder. "Your kid is a natural." I smile and stand up. "Yeah he sure is. And he's my kid." I say, standing up and crossing my arms proudly. "I hope I'm at least half the dad that he didn't have to be! Cause he didn't have to be, ya know he didn't have to be!" The whole room erupts in applause. I walk over and pick him up. "I love you dad!" He says. "I love you too, son." We do cake and stuff then everyone leaves. Little CJ is fast asleep on the couch. "Party sure wore him out." I say, smiling. I pick him up and take him to his room. I go back downstairs but Miranda isn't there. "Honey?" I call confused. "Our room!" She calls. Oh. So I go back upstairs to our room. "Had a fun day?" She asks. "It was great." I say, laying beside her. "Especially that song CJ sang for me. That brought me to tears almost." She smiles. I kiss her gently. "You have one more birthday surprise." I'm surprised just by her saying that. I mean she went all out today. She stands back up and opens the dresser drawer. She pulls out a small but long box. "What is it babe?" She lays back beside me and hands it to me. "Open it." She says, laying on my shoulder. I open the box and move the paper. My eyes go wide and I nearly drop it. "So that's why you wouldn't take that whiskey shot!" I gasp, shocked. It was a positive pregnancy test. She smiles. "Surprise!" She gasps. "My God! Baby you're pregnant!" She nods. I drop the test for real this time and hug her tight. "You excited?" I smile and kiss her hard. "I've dreamed of this day for months now." "Oh Jay, I love you so much!" I kiss her again. "I love you too, baby."
