For the Lovely EricBurdy
It was a sunny day in your town, though it was still a little chilly out. There were birds chirping in their sing-song way, the grass looked damp and green. People were actually out trying to get things done, shopping and getting groceries. And there you were, lost somewhere in the middle of it all. Even though it had been nice the past few days, you had a bit of depression you had trouble shaking. You had tried pulling yourself together and looking for something to cheer you up. But- It just wasn't coming to you. You pulled your jacket close to you, hugging yourself tight as you walked down the busy city sidewalk, trying to get your errands done. As you got to the local groceries shoppe, you grabbed a basket and started gathering things you would need over the next few days. You browsed around for a minute or two, not taking much interest in anything. But- once you got what you needed you payed and promptly left back to your house, where you can further seclude yourself. You didn't really know why you'd been so blue, you sometimes got lonely when your boyfriend Jack wasn't at home, but you usually weren't this bad. You had been dating Jack Bruce of Cream for two years, since you first went and saw his band play in Brixton in 1966'. He had been touring in the states for what felt like all year now. Even though he called you as much as he possibly could and made sure to send lots of postcards of all the places he got to go, it was different being all alone. Sure you had a few friends, but you missed your boyfriend. Once you were home you went and sat down in your favourite chair by the window, you looked out as the clouds were starting to cover the sky. "Great, it's going to rain or something- again!" You exclaimed leaning back in the chair, you felt your throat tense up, like you wanted to begin to cry. You put your head in your hands, letting out a heavy sigh, before hearing a loud clap of thunder as rain started to pour from the previously bright sky. The big droplets of rain fell down from the top of the window, as the sky just grew darker, you watched the large droplets as they ran down the window pane. You wanted to cry, maybe let some of your feelings out as the rain fell heavily- but no tears would come out. You got so caught up in your thoughts, you almost jumped ten feet in the air when you heard a heavy pounding at the door. Reluctantly you went towards the front door to open it, as whoever was on the other side was still beating on the door, you undid the latch and flung it open. You were so excited to see your boyfriend Jack standing there, it was really unexpected of him to be back- but there he was. "Thanks for finally opening the door, Jill!" He said, running in. He had his suitcase in one hand, and his coat in the other as he tried to hold it above his head in effort not to get drenched by the rainfall. Jack threw his wet coat down on the floor, picking you up and spinning you around excitedly in his strong arms. "I'm so glad to see you, Baby." Jack stated, finally sitting you down. You two kept your arms around each other. "I'm happy to see you too." You smiled, trying to act like you normally would when he came home. But, of course he could see through it. "Jill, what's wrong, are you not happy to see me?" Jack questioned, a look of seriousness and concern crossing his face. "No, no, I'm actually really glad you're home. I've just been feeling really down, you know?" You said, putting your head down, looking at the wood flooring. "Oh, darling, no. Tell me, what's going on?" Jack said, grabbing your chin softly, making you look up at him. You couldn't help it, seeing Jack and knowing he was there to comfort you, you couldn't help but let a few tears fall from your eyes. Jack instantly picked you up, carrying you to the sofa in the living room, where he cradled you in his arms, calming you down. "Come on, Jill. Don't be upset, there's nothing to be upset about, sweetheart." Jack cooed. You rubbed your eyes, looking at your boyfriend. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be upset." You apologized through your sobs. Jack petted your hair, before planting a sweet kiss on your lips. He pulled back, looking you in the eyes, he cupped you face in his hands. "Don't apologize, I know I can't always fix your problems. But, Jill, I always want to be here to try to fix them. You know how much I love you, though that may not fix your depression- I can at best try to help you through it." You genuinely smiled at Jack, knowing you were lucky to have someone that truly cares about you like he does. You couldn't help but let a few more tears fall, making Jack pull you closer to him, thinking you were still really upset. "Don't worry, Jack. These are happy tears now." You smiled, laying you head on his shoulder. "I'm so lucky to have you, Jill." Jack smiled, showing his crooked teeth. "No, I'm lucky to have you. I love you, Jack." "I love you too." Jack smiled holding you tight, you knew you both felt content and happy lying there in each others arms.
