Chapter Twenty-Nine

The ball had ended and now we were on our way home. Soon as we hit the car Ciara was knocked out so that just left me and Anna. Usually she was energetic but tonight she was quiet like something was on her mind. I was going to let it go but the silence she made me worry something was wrong. "You okay," I asked looking her direction. She didn't bother to look at me but just shook her head yea. I knew she was lying from experience so I decided to press her more. "Then why so quiet, I would think you would be happy or something?"

"Just tired," she turned around and gave me a fake smile and turned back forward. I nodded my head like everything was okay but I knew something was wrong and I planned to find out. When we got home this shit was getting handled one way or another.

Soon as I pulled up and parked Anna got out and headed inside. I got out and got Ciara. I carried her to her room and tucked her in. I went to my bedroom and didn't see Anna so I went to find her. I found her in the kitchen making peanut butter and crackers. I stood in the doorway watching her and waiting for her to notice me. She sighed and then stopped what she was doing and looked up at me. "What Hayden?" I ignored her tone and continued, "Tell me what's wrong with you."

"I told you I was tired."

"Don't lie to me Annalisa." She looked away and bit her lip like she was thinking and then looked back up at me. "Someone told me something and I don't know if I should tell you."

"What do you know Anna."

"This guy that worked with me to plan the charity ball turned out to be working with Kyle this whole time."

"Go on."

"He told me that the peace I know will soon end and I will be Kyle's forever."

"When did he tell you this?"

"While you and Ciara were dancing," she said looking down. I walked up to her and gripped her chin in my hand making her look up at me. I could tell she was scared about what could happen to her and what I would say but honestly I wasn't mad. I knew Kyle had people working or maybe close to Anna and anticipated it so when they did come out I was ready. I had been making plans from the beginning and now I was just waiting for him to show his face. "Like I told you before I got you and I would never let anyone hurt you."

"How can you say that? I have been working with someone who works for Kyle this whole time and didn't even know it, so tell me how can you protect me when we don't even know where they are hiding."

"Anna do you really believe I would not know everyone who goes around or works for you? It is my job to protect you Ciara which means I already knew that fucker worked for Kyle and I had my people watching him the whole time."

"Why didn't you tell me then, so I wouldn't be left standing there in complete shock?"

"Because you don't know how to lie to save your life," I said smirking. Anna would try to lie about something but would then get caught up and then the whole lie would fall apart. "I can lie!"

"Anna you cannot lie for shit. If I would've told you about him then you would've started acting weird and gave everything up. I needed you to act the way you did so that way he thinks he won." She sighed and then leaned on my chest. I wrapped my arms around her body and held her close. "I promise you everything will be okay and this will soon be over. Then we can live happily ever after like the family we were meant to be."

"You promise," she asked looking up at me. "I promise." I bent down and kissed her lips sealing the deal we just made.

We then made our way upstairs and got ready for bed. "So you know Ciara birthday tomorrow?" Anna said as she got in bed next to me. "I know this."
