Mia POV

Mia was different, even in the world of gods.

It wasn't just because her older twin - Yes that is a thing that happens, twins can be born days or weeks different, or in her case months - Jake was the leader of the healer class. It wasn't because of her natural paleness or aura of drowsiness that she radiated either.

It was her past.

It had been pretty normal until she was one year old. Then the girl started visiting.

Mia didn't remember her name or face. She would recognise the song she always sang though, no matter what.

Even if she hadn't heard it since she was two.

She would come at noon. She helped her mother with odd jobs then come into the nursery where she and Jake would always be.

She couldn't have been much older than them. She remembered her laugh when Jake constantly tripped over when trying to walk. It had sounded like a five year old 's.

None the less, she was welcomed in the house. She came almost daily and would sing to then in that strange language.

That was, until, the accident.

Things had been going well. Her mother had had a boost in her dress making business so they didn't have to worry about money anymore.

By this point she could walk and say simple words. She also understood people's emotions. Somehow.

One day the girl didn't come. No one worried. She did that sometimes.

By the third day of her not turning up, Mia's mother started to worry. But maybe something came up. Maybe it was family problems.

On the fourth day the house awoke to the sound of screaming.

She didn't remember much after that. There were yells and flames. They were taken out the house quickly.
A sort of beast hung around the house. She knew now it had been a hellhound.

They slept in the town hall for a while.

"She can't come again," she remembered her mother saying "We were silly to take the risk in the first place."

It had confused her then and it still did now. The girl who everyone loved was a risk?

Jake was always just as confused. He remembered less about it for some reason even though he was older. That also made no sense. Surely he would remember more.

Their lives had gone upside down from there. The only good break they had was finding the MoonRunners through Willow, the one that found them in the city streets.

Willow had always seemed familiar to her. But she couldn't have seen her before. They'd been what, six when they met her?

Besides, she'd been the first person she'd ever seen with a metal hand.
