I woke up to an empty room. Dalila was gone, and it was pretty quiet. I glanced at the digital clock by the bedside. It was already 10:30! There I went sleeping in again... I hastily got up out of bed, rushing out the door. The first and only one I saw was the Patriarch, who looked like he'd just come in.
"Ah, Leila!" He exclaimed. I knew what he really meant was: "Ah, finally!" "Are you ready to start training."
"Yep." I replied. "So who's training me today?" He looked a little confused.
"Excuse me?"
"Which... One of you today?" I asked nervously. What was I saying wrong? He still looked lost.
"All of us, Leila." He said. My eyes widened.
"All of you...? Every single one at the same time?" I asked in surprise. He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes..." He replied. "Oh, is there a problem?"
"N-no!" I said quickly. "It's just not what the... Hexterias do."
"Well, we're not the Hexterias." Patriarch said matter-of-factly. He switched subjects immediately. "Everyone's already outside, so..." That's when a phone rang from somewhere in the house. "Excuse me Leila..." He began walking towards the ringing, waving towards the door. "I'll be right out, go on and see the others."
I headed out the door. The yard outside was pretty nice. Everyone was out here, sort of doing their own thing. I saw Dalila away from everyone else as she huddled against the wall, reading of course. Then there was Brisa, Aedus, and Derek, who seemed like they were playing some sort of game. Derek held onto a metal stick, and Aedus was throwing a ball at him in which Brisa caught with a huge brown.... I think that was a glove?
"STRIKE!" Aedus shouted. What were they doing?
"About time you showed up." That's the first time I noticed Lorelei, as far away from everyone as possible. That's when the Patriarch came rushing outside, looking angry.
"Derek! I just got a call from the neighbor. You broke her arm!?" He exclaimed furiously. Derek dropped the metal stick.
"What? No!" He protested. "The ball just went in her yard so I went to get it, but she had it and wouldn't give it back!"
"So you broke her arm for a ball!?" Patriarch asked in disbelief.
"Well no, I already got the ball back and pushed her away." Derek explained. Patriarch shook his head.
"So... You pushed her and broke her arm, for a ball."
"Was it a special ball Derek?" I asked teasingly. Aedus smiled in amusement.
"Nope, it was just an old flat baseball. Sometimes I don't know why he does the things he does." He said. Baseball... That was the game wasn't it? I was still trying to figure it out. Patriarch sighed.
"At least she's not suing us, you be thankful considering all the valuable stuff in this house!"
"Count your blessings Derek." Aedus said in a sing song voice.
"Shut up Aedus!"
"Both of you idiots shut up!" Lorelei snapped. "This conversation is ridiculously stupid. I've been waiting out here way too long, so are we going to get this over with or not?"
