This poem is a true story, and I think it's wrecked me for life.  Enjoy.

We were only 7 each

Too young to know the words we say

But I loved you

And you loved me

So that one day by the tree

We both said it and my heart fluttered

I knew what it was like to be loved

But not a day later

All I heard around school

Was the harshness of the words

You lied about saying to me

"Chelsea loves Tony, Chelsea loves Tony"

The words still ring true in my ears

Tears still flow when I think of what

Those words did to me, even to this day

I snuck around school to avoid the chants

The words, so sharp, cut my little heart

To pieces.

The worst part was when I went up and asked

"Why did you start this? I thought you said you

Loved me??"

He just laughed and ran in the other direction.

Far out of my broken heart and life

Never to be seen again.

He left me with a mess of love

Shards of my heart lying on the ground

He left me to pick up the pieces

And I was too young to put them back together

So now they still don't fit as they should

And all the love falls through the cracks

Leaving my heart empty inside

So now what can I do?

I don't know how to love

I don't know what to do

I don't know how to say

Those three words

For fear of history repeated.

I don't know how to say

I. L.O.V.E. Y.O.U.
