Michael never thought he would be where he was right now. He never thought that he would have to be dropping out of school and having to live in a hospital. He also didn't expect his parents to leave him and flee the country, expecting Michael's uncle to pay for his treatment. Michael being Michael, didn't really take much thought into it, though. He thought maybe his parents were going away for a while, and get some alone time for themselves. Well, that is until they didn't come back after four weeks. Michael started to get worried. Each day he would wait in his hospital bedroom and hope his parents would come back. When they didn't, Michael started to think why they left. He thought it was because they wanted another son. One that wasn't a fuck up like him. He thought this for a while. Until he saw the medical bill, and saw millions of '0's stacked together.
His parents left the small boy because they couldn't pay the money needed. Michael didn't know how to feel at first. At first he was angry. Angry at his parents for just leaving him like that. But later he became angry at himself. He started beating him self up for being who he is. Maybe if he wasn't sick and such a fuck up, his parents would love him. But that's what he thought.
Michael was never the happiest person. Even though he seemed like he was, he was hurting inside. It's not like people ever bullied him or anything. It's not what anyone said. It's what everyone didn't say. He was always the loner at school. Everyone thought he was a freak for wearing flower crowns, skirts, and makeup. But no one said anything. No one wanted to say anything to the boy that always had a bright smile on his Face. He didn't have any friends, though.
But he thrived for some. He wanted friends he could go shopping with, and a boyfriend that could tell him he's pretty everyday. But he never got that. All Michael ever wanted was to be pretty. But once the doctors told him the bad news, he knew he could never be pretty again.
It took only 4 months for Michael to notice anything was going on . He would start to feel lightheaded every day, and he would get back pain a lot. But when he really knew something was going on was when he started vomiting almost every day. He also began to Loss a lot of weight without him even trying. At first he thought it was just part of puberty and he was only losing his baby weight, but then it got to the point where he was losing 5 pounds every week.
He got worried and told his parents something was wrong with him, but they didn't bother doing anything about it. They just gave him aspirin for his back pain and let him stay home when he vomited. They where clueless until it took a huge turn and Michael had heart pain and passed out in school.
They took him to the doctor and there they did some tests on him. And of course his parents were not happy with Michael having to take time away from their job.
The test came back and they told Michael and his parents the bad news. Apparently Michael had pancreatic cancer. Michael knew nothing about what that was, so he spend that night researching it. Pancreatic cancer was Cancer that begins in the organ lying behind the lower part of the stomach, called the pancreas.
Although Michael's parents didn't want to, the doctors insisted on getting Michael medical help before his cancer got worse. So they got Michael into the hospital and did millions of tests on him. A few weeks/months later, Michael was ready for chemotherapy and was ready from all the practice the doctors did one him, and the pills.
The small boy didn't feel better after the surgery and all the drugs the doctors were giving him. He didn't see anything change. He still lost his Appetite and was losing weight. He didn't see anything change about him. Until, one night he was sleeping in his room and woke up to fallen hair scattered all around his pillow.
He wanted to scream and cry. He didn't know what to do. He has been trying to be perfect for ever and now he'll never be. No one thinks a bald person is perfect. He just wanted to cry in the dark and forget about all his troubles. That night he locked him self in his room and started pulling out all of his hair. How was he going to be pretty now?
Later on, the doctors found out Michael was doing worse and put him back in the hospital. They thought him staying by himself would be to risky, especially with him not eating.
Michael let's his small tears fall down his tainted cheeks, as he sits on his hospital bed and watches the small T.V in front of him.
He's had this happen to him a few times before. He starts getting flashbacks and remembers how he was to how he is now. Neither being what he wanted his life to be like. There was a soft knock on Michael's bedroom door. He quickly wiped away his salty tears off his cheeks, and rubbed his eyes. Before letting out a small, "come in".
A middle age women with blond hair, and bags under her eyes, came into the small room. The tag on her scrubs reading, 'diamond'. "Hello, Michael," she smiled, how are you doing?"
Michael stuttered a small 'okay'. It was very soft and quiet, but it was there.
"Good. Well, it's time for breakfast" the blond went outside of the room, and came back inside with a tray of food, "we made oatmeal and eggs this morning," she said as she placed the food next to Michael.
Michael sat up, and just stared at the food. He took his spoon and started picking at the oatmeal, making a face at the disgusting substance. Michael then turned his attention to the nurse, who was giving him a sad smile.
"Mikey, you must eat to be healthy," she explained, "I know its hard for you, but just a few bites, please?"
Michael hesitantly nodded. He took his fork and pecked the eggs. He gathered about 3 pieces on his fork, before bringing it to his mouth. He quietly chewed as he tried to forget what he was eating. He swallowed with a load gulp.
"Good job, Mikey," the diamond gave him a high five.
"T-thanks," Michael shyly smiled. He loved the affection he got. He never got any from his parents, and he never saw his uncle. So affection was new to Michael, but he definitely liked the attention he got.
"Okay, so I'm going to go help the other patients. Can I trust you to at least try to eat more?" Michael meekly nodded. "Okay, goodbye Michael. I'll see you in a few," The blond made her way out the small room.
Michael looked at the tray of food, trying to bring him self to eat more. But he knew if he forced himself, he would throw up later. So he just let out a soft sigh and turned his attention to a window that was next to his bed.
He watched as the trees swayed in the morning wind. And the birds flew around. He looked at the morning sunset. He watched as the sun came in sight, and the darkness faded away.
He looked back at his food. He wondered how if felt to feel normal and to be able to eat food without forcing yourself. It's not like Michael wanted this. He was okay with the weight he had, he didn't care for losing or gaining any more. But when he got cancer, that all changed.
But it's not like he was normal before cancer. He was never excepted and was all ways in the dark. He just wanted a sunshine to take all the darkness away, and give him light.
