Missy

"Melissa, why don't you take a step in my office for a moment?"

I dreaded anytime that I had to converse with my principal, Mr. Wheeler. He had a habit of getting on my last nerve.

Ashley, who was standing beside me furrowed her brows. "What did you do now?" I just shrugged. I could not have been in trouble again because I hadn't even been to school in the past three days.

"The hell if I know..." I sighed before following behind him to his office.

Mr. Wheeler sat at his desk and pulled a clipboard out. "So, I'm hoping that you learned something while you were out for those three days."

I simply nodded. "Yep, I did."

A pleasant smile formed on his face as if he were satisfied with my answer. "Oh, is that right? What did you learn?"

"That you petty, duh."

Mr. Wheeler's smile quickly vanished and he shook his head. "Have a seat, Melissa."

I remained standing and crossed my arms. "I'm good. I'm comfty right here," I told him.

"Suit yourself. Anyway, in light of your recent suspension I've decided to put your smarts and...strong willed attitude to use."

"Okay, already. Get to the point, Wheeler." I snapped my fingers, hoping that he would hurry up. The last place I wanted to be held up at on a Friday is this school.

"Here. I've talked to your father and he thinks this would be good for you," he said while reaching over to hand me the clipboard.

I knotted my brows up. "What is this for?" I asked, taking it from his hand.

"Your duties. You'll be tutoring students on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the library. Also, you've been assigned to help with the Winter formal, all the school-wide pep rallies, and the prom."

I looked at Wheeler like he had lost his everlasting mind. "Are you fuc--kidding me?"

"No, I'm pretty serious about this."

I mentally rolled my eyes. "Fine, I guess I'll start the tutoring thing next week, Monday."

Wheeler shook his head in disapproval. "Actually, it is Friday...You're slated to start today." He glanced down at his watch and looked back up at me.

"You should get going. You're already five minutes late." Instead of saying anything else back, I stormed out of his office with the clipboard in hand.

"So, what happened?" Ash asked when I got back out to the hallway.

"Wheeler being a green as usual. I have to tutor and be on the planning committee," I whined.

Ashley frowned and held my shoulder, feeling my pain. "Damn, Wheeler not showing no mercy on you now. So, when you start the tutoring program?"

"Today," I mumbled.

"No, but I thought you were going with me to my cousin's house?"

"I was, but then Wheeler wanted to be a dick wad and punish me even more like the suspension was not enough."

Ashley cracked a small smile. "Dick wad, eh?"

I rolled my eyes at Ashley and chuckled softly. "I told you it'll catch on, Missy. Now you using it..."

"Whatever, Ash. Let me go get this tutoring thing over with. Call me later and tell me how the visit goes."

"Of course. Bye girl."

I watched Ashley make it out of the door before strolling down the hall to the library. When I walked in, I was surprised that there were so many people in there studying on a Friday. It just didn't seem right to me.

Looking down at my clipboard, I scanned a page to see who I was supposed to be tutoring today. I sighed when noticing the name and went over to the table where he was.

"Hey, Missy. You my new tutor?"

I sat down across from him and nodded. "Yes, it looks that way Will." A pleased grin formed on his face, one that I had come accustomed to whenever he was around me.

"What exactly do you need help with?" I asked him, trying to seem the least bit interested.

"Math and History."

"Okay, should be pretty simple. We'll start with math first." I started to open my bookbag and pull my math book out. Just as I opened it, a small note flew out of it. Before I could get my hands on it, Will caught it.

He stared down at the note and frowned for some reason. "What is it?" I curiously asked, not knowing what information was on the piece of paper.

"Be careful with him, Missy." Will said while handing me the paper and I read what was written.

Call me for whatever

I rolled my eyes and balled it up before tossing in the nearest trash can. "Be careful? Ain't that your partna'...why you going against the grain?"

Wil smacked his teeth and shrugged. "Yeah, Don's my boy for life but that does not mean I want good girls to be blindsided either. So, be careful..."

"Blindsided by what, Will?" I was interested to know what Will was referring to.

"Don's charm and everything that comes with him. He's a beast, I'll admit that but you deserve better."

I cackled lowly. "Will, I never said that I was interested in Donovan though. So that won't be a problem."

"They never are, Missy. Like I said, just be careful," he repeated once more before opening his own book to get started.

"Alright, I'll be careful if you promise to get pay close attention to everything that I teach you in next..." I looked at the clock on wall, "hour and a half."

"Cool beans," he smiled with his eyes focused intensely on my face.

"You good?" I asked.

"Mhm, just enjoying the view."

I shook my head and pointed to the book. "Nah, enjoy this lesson. My face doesn't have equations on it."

"Fair enough."
