Donovan
"Um, what are you doing in bed?" My mom came in the room to see me playing Madden on my Xbox.
"Why wouldn't I be in bed?"
Her hands were placed on her hips as she was about to give me a lecture. "Because it's prom night. You've been excited about this night for years and, yet, you're just sitting here doing nothing."
"Not feeling it, I guess..." I said with a slight shrug.
She came beside me and sat down. "Look, I know that you're feeling like a lot is going on right now, but you still have to live. Life doesn't stop everytime shit gets tough, Donny. Go have fun."
"I don't see the point. I don't have a date nor do I have a tux. Plus, I don't want to leave you here alone."
A small chuckle escaped her mouth. "I know you have some dress clothes in this closet somewhere. I just bought you a cute two-piece suit set that you letting rot. Now, get off that game and started getting dressed. I need to go get my camera."
"Mama, I--"
"Donovan, I don't wanna hear it. If you wanna do something for me, then go be a teenager and enjoy your prom night. You only get one."
"Alright, let me go shower then."
I took a deep breath and walked into the venue feeling under dressed in comparison to everybody else. My fit was basic as hell, but then again, last minute as well.
"Looky here. Oh, Don Sauve over decided to show up." I looked over to my right to see Will and Ben approaching me.
"Missed me?" I teased them and they both laughed.
"Eh, nah. I see you got the velvet print to match our fly," Ben added and I noticed that he was right with a simple nod on reply. "Great minds think alike, I guess."
Will shook his head and fixed his bowtie. "Chill out. My shit is Calvin Klein, y'all on that baisc shit."
"Last time I checked, I was the one named Lemont's best dressed. Not your tired ass," Ben added and I chuckled at their banter. I missed kicking shit with these fools on the regular.
Will smacked his teeth and quickly changed the subject. "Anyway, your girl just won prom queen a few minutes ago. You gone congratulate her or something?"
I shrugged not knowing how I would deal with Missy tonight considering our unfortunate argument yesterday. I came at her at wrong and it wasn't right.
"Eh, I don't think she would want that. You got some drank though? I'm trying to enjoy my night."
Will nodded and handed Don the red cup on his hand that looked like grape punch, but smelled like every bit of alcohol. "You know I got you."
Don took and big gulp and cringed. There was liquor in there then he expected, but he downed all of it. "Goddamn."
Missy
Yassss, miss prom queen!" Ashley had been hyping me up since I got won the crown thirty minutes ago. It felt good to just enjoy one of my final high school moments with my best friend. We both knew that once July came around, Ash be at Howard with Ben not too far away from her at Georgetown.
When the song changed up, Bennett came over with a slight grin on his face. "Uh, excuse me ladies. Why the gorgeous ones in the room dancing by themselves?" He asked when looking betweem the both of us.
Ashley smirked and he asked for her hand. She looked back at me with uncertainty. "Go, Ash. Don't leave the man hanging."
Ben took her by her waist and they went on to being so absorbed in each other. Despite, my qualms with Ben I knew that he was right for Ashley. From the beginning, he was so invested in her and only her...it's still a mystery as to why they had broken up in the first place.
