Missy
I sat in the waiting room napping until there was a tap on my hand. "Missy, your Dad just came out."
I looked up to see that I was resting my head on Don's shoulder. He looked just as tired as I felt, but he still cracked a smile for me before signaling to where my dad was.
By the look on my dad's face, he was hopefully and that eased my thoughts. I got up to stretch my body and walked over to him. "Are Val and the baby okay?" I asked, scared for his answer.
When I had got to the hospital from the hotel my dad was in a frenzy. Val and the baby were having complications, but the doctor promised that she would do everything in her power to ensure they were okay.
He sighed and nodded. "Val's still unconscious, but the doc says she'll be fine. I just came to check on you."
"I'm good, but maybe you need to rest or something. You look exhausted daddy," I said. My father smacked his teeth and sat in on the empty chairs in the room.
"Nah, I can't sleep while my babies in there. I've already lost one wife and nearly lost you...I can't lose more."
I felt his words, but I didn't say anything a loud. "Daddy, taking a little nap won't hurt. I'll go in the room while you rest for a bit. It's no problem."
A fragile smile formed on his lips. "I really love you, baby girl. I need you to know that. Despite everything I may have said about you leaving soon...that was my anger toward your mom talking," he finally admitted to me. I sat beside him as he sighed before expanding.
"Me and your mom had talked about being discharged, so that we could finally give you a regular two-parent home. That was the plan. Her leaving to Iraq to go do another tour wasn't the plan and that just left a bitter taste in mouth. Especially, because she left after we had been arguing so damn much. But that still doesn't excuse my behavior toward you, Missy. I don't ever wanna make you feel like I don't love and care for you to the moon."
A small smile cracked on my face and I reached over to give him a hug. "Daddy, you're such a sap these days."
We seperated from our hug and he cackled softly. "Aww, shut up," he barked back.
"Sooo, is there something you wanna tell me?" My dad nudged my shoulder while looking over at Don, who was nearly falling asleep in his chair.
"No..." I lied with a guilty tight-lipped smile.
"Oh, really? So, your ex-boyfriend is who you bring with you to the hospital after your prom night...interesting."
I cackled softly at him digging, but I wasn't falling into that. "We're just good friends now. He offered to drive me because the limo driver was taking too long."
My dad simpy nodded. "Okay, but just be careful. I went easy on him last time because you didn't give me specifics, but just say the word. I'll have him on a platter."
I chuckled softly. "It's cool, daddy."
"Mhm, well let me go back in there in with Val." He got up with a deep sigh and wiped his face.
I nodded at him and got up as well. "If you need me in there just let me know," I said.
He smiled and waltzed back down the hall to Val's operating room. I headed back over to Donovan. His eyes found mine when I strolled closer to him.
"Everything okay?" Don questioned with his eyes examining my face
"My dad sounds hopeful," I told him. "You know you don't have to stay here, Donovan. Go home and rest."
