(Erica POV)
"So, babe?" Paul says.
I met Paul st work five years back, for the law firm. We almost immediately hit it off, and started dating.
"Look at how cute Jess is."
"Aw, our baby is so cute sleeping."
"So, how long until you have to go back to work?" He asks.
"Do I have to? Can I just be a stay at home mom?"
"We can afford it, if that is what you are asking. You could quit your job if you wanted."
"I don't want to miss any of this. I am gonna do it. I will call my boss and quit." I say.
I fear that I will miss landmarks like her first words, or her first steps, or watching her crawl for the first time.
"She is asleep. If you want, you can call Saul. Do it in the living room, so you don't wake the baby. Then you can go pass out on the couch."
"I'm gonna do it. I am gonna go quit my job, then I will take a nap. Want to clean our my cubical please?"
I take out my phone.
"Hey, Saul."
"Hello, Erica. Is everything okay?" He asks.
"Yes, but, I regret to inform you that I am not coming back to my job. Paul will clean out my cubical, and you can hire someone else."
"Well, I wasn't expecting that."
"I have a new job. Being Jess' so mother."
"I agree, parenting comes first. If you ever want to come back to work, let me know. I can hook you up. And Erica?"
"Yeah?"
"Send us pictures of the baby. People have been asking to see them."
"Okay, bye Saul."
I hang up.
"How did it go?"
"Well, Saul did not expect that. But, if I ever want a job, I better call Saul."
Jess starts crying. She is probably hungry.
I feed her, and stare at her for a while.
"We should have another one once we can." I say.
"Oh?"
"Every part about having her was fun. Especially the sex."
"That was fun." He says.
"I still can't get over how cute she is sleeping. I love her so much."
"Hun, she is the cutest thing on this planet except for you."
"I'm tired." I whine.
"Let's go to bed."
