(Katy's POV)
I look at Tamra and Erika who both shrug their shoulders in confusion. Mackenzie screams again. "MOM!!" I drop the knife on the bench and run as fast as I can up the stairs. "Mackenzie what's wrong?!" I knock on her bathroom door. How many times have I told her not to use this bathroom! "I ahh... I'm bleeding!" She sounds panicked by also confused. "Where are you bleeding? Your arm?" I don't want to bust in there incase she's bleeding from where I'm thinking she is? "Umm... No." "Mackenzie just tell me, where's the blood?" "Ahh.. In my underwear?" Phew, sort of. "Okay, you're fine I promise." "Clear yourself up and come out. I have something to give you." I run back downstairs. "I think she just got her period. Could you run down and get me some pads?" I almost beg Tamra. I hate asking her to do me favours when we aren't working but I can't leave. "Sure, I'll be right back." Tamra heads off and leaves Erika to finish lunch. "Mackenzie, are you okay?" No reply? "Mackenzie?" Nothing? "Okay I'm going to countdown from ten if you don't answer me I'm coming in." The person who said silence is sweet obviously never had kids! "10....9...8....7...6...5...4...3....2..1.. I'm coming in!" I slowly turned the handle and peered through the door. She's sitting on the floor by the shower. Knees pulled up to her face and blood all over her shorts, toilet seat and where she's sitting. It finally clicks in my head. She's closed her eyes! She did it when she had her accident, she wouldn't look at all the blood. She'd just close her eyes. "Mackenzie?" I slowly walk over to her. "Go away." She whispers "it's okay, I can help you. This is perfectly normal." I try to reassure her. I hear Tamra come through the door so I head back down and grab them off her. "Do you remember when Demi asked you if you knew what a period was?" "Yes." "Okay well this is it." "Bleeding everywhere? I don't want it." "Trust me no one wants it but it's a good thing. It means your body is getting ready for you to have babies when you're older." I show her the pads and tell her how to use them before grabbing her some clean clothes. "Here, give it a go and let me know if you need help." She looks up at me. "Can you do it?" "Huh?" "Can you show me how to use them?" "Sure, if you want me to? Stand up." "I do." She stands up. I help her get her shorts off and then her underwear. I help her put on the clean ones on and put the pad in place. I pull her underwear up and her clean shorts. "Go downstairs and see Tamra, I'll clean this up." for the second time I'm cleaning Mackenzie's blood off everything. This time I'm just glad it's not life threatening and now that all this is over we can move on. I come downstairs to see Mackenzie crawled up in a ball on the couch watching Disney with Tamra. Can't say I'd ever expect to see Tamra cuddled up with a kid but it's nice to see Mackenzie's learnt she can trust Tamra too. I got back in the kitchen to check how everything's going. "Is she okay?" Erika asks. "Yeah, I think she'll be fine. Just scared and embarrassed." "Well sometimes things happen where you just need your mom, be proud that you've earned her trust." "Yeah that's true, haha I still need my mom from time to time." We giggle. We sit down on the couch to eat. Mackenzie eats little bits of her food and puts the plate on the bench before resuming her place on the couch. I haven't really had the chance to explain much to her but I don't want to do it while Tamra and Erika are here.
A few hours later Tamra and Erika leave and just before Orlando gets home with Flynn. "Mackenzie can you come here I call to her. I explain that she has to change it by herself and that for the next week I'll remind her when but then it's up to her. I honestly don't feel like she's mentally ready for this but what can I do? You can't stop Mother Nature. It takes her a good 10 minutes but she comes out of the bathroom with a smile on her face. "I did it." I give her a big hug and we go finish watching Bambi till Orlando arrives. Oh what a week.
