Days went by like this: wake up, vomit, eat for the baby, cry, school, work, dinner, cry, sleep, repeat. Somehow, despite this sudden depression, my energy levels have been higher than before. I find that although the moping is self inflicted, I can jump out of bed and go to college where I have been paying attention instead of dozing off like I usually do. Then at work, after having a long day at school I don't feel an ounce of tiredness. My strength has been higher as well, especially at work where I wait tables. I push burly men and full figured women into the tables for a closer fit and not feel any strain in doing so.
After my initial confirmation with my doctor, I was back at the clinic for a check up.
I had been going to Dr D since I was born. She was there for all the medical milestones of my life. Birth, shots, chicken pox, mumps, even my first menstruation ... and my first "talk." Awkward. But I knew she was always there.
It felt symbolic that she would be my doctor throughout my pregnancy.
I entered the clinic and waited for the nurse to show me into the room. I was greeted by Dr D a few minutes later.
"Sweetie! How are you?" she gushed as she entered. She was glamorously tall with blonde hair and killer Louboutins which only served to accentuate her figure. She rushed towards me and I stood as she hugged me.
"Fine, Doc" I replied, equally returning her hug.
"So" she said, sitting down behind the desk. "Check up time!"
She went through a few key questions about the pregnancy before she told me to hop onto the chair.
"Well, were at the point in time where we can see your baby's heart beat!"
She hooked up the machinery and began to squirt jelly onto my stomach. The screen a jumble of almost abstract bubbles.
"Its so exciting, I will make you a copy of this to..." she scrunched up her face, almost as if she were lost for words. "Huh"
This had me freaking out. Something's wrong
"Oh no, oh no, oh no...!" I began to hyperventilate. "What's happened to my baby?!"
"Breathe, sweetie!" Doc began to refocus and placate me. "Deep breath in, slowly exhale. We have to stay calm ok. There is nothing to worry about. Keep breathing."
I kept doing what she told me and she took a deep breath herself.
"Honey"
"Yeah, Doc?"
"You're having twins."
"What?!"
"Sweetie, try and remain calm."
I tried as best as I could as I thought over what she said.
"I'm having what?"
"Twins" she said with a smile. "Your ultrasound showed 2 heartbeats and it appears that you are having twins."
"My gosh" I said tearing up. Damn hormones. "Do you really mean it?"
"Yeah, I do," she said with a wide smile. "I mean it."
"Whoa. I'm having two babies" I said with a croak. "All on my own."
"What?" Doc asked, shock evident on her face. "But what happened to Chase?"
"He doesn't believe its his. Told me it was physically impossible for us to have kids and well, he left me" I blurted out to her.
"That Jerk!" she said, incredulously. "Here I was thinking that this boy is perfect for you!"
"Tell me about it"
"Is that why there are bags under you eyes?" she said with concern, stroking my brow that way a mother would.
"Uh, yeah. It hasn't been easy but somehow I am managing." I remembered that I had to ask her something that had been weighing on my mind. "Uh, Doc. I know this may be out of the ordinary but why is it that I have this burst of strength? Don't get me wrong, it has been hard without Chase here and I have been moping around a lot but I find that I have been bending utensils, squashing door handles and almost detach my car door from its hinge? Oh, my energy levels have been through the roof too."
With shock evident on her face, the Doc regains composure and looks intently at me.
"And your concentration has been through the roof right?"
"Yeah, how did you know?" I asked, but she seemed to be in a trance.
"Tell me, when did you first notice this burst of strength?"
"Hmm, well it had to be when I was attacking Chase in a fit of rage a few weeks ago."
"Its already starting to take effect"
"Uh, Doc," I say, hesitantly. "What has? What is wrong with me?"
"Sweetie remain calm"
"How can I when you are freaking me out?"
"I should really be talking to your mother first"
"You know that I haven't seen her for well over 3 years and have lived as an emancipated minor since then. If there is anything you need to say, tell it to me now. I doubt that she would care anyway." I feel tense whenever anyone brings up my mother. She left me to fend for myself since I was 15, although I concede that the house and money helped but I had to prove to her that if she didn't need me then I don't need her. So I left the house and the money to be with Chase and I haven't searched for her since.
"But Hippolyte needs to be in formed."
"Uh, I doubt my Mom would care that I am having a child...I mean children"
"She will. She will want to know that it has happened."
"Doc, even if you could you wouldn't be able to. Doctor Patient confidentiality ring a bell?"
"Im sorry sweetie, but this runs a lot more higher than that."
"What could run higher than your medical licence?"
"I don't think I should tell you"
"Tell me!" I yell at her. All I was met with was silence. So I said it again with more force "Tell me!"
Almost as if she was invisibly compelled, she took a deep breath and met my eyes in defeat.
"This runs a lot higher than you think. I didn't know that I would be the one to eventually tell you this, in fact I'm sure we were hoping to never have to tell you this."
"What it is?"
"Sweetie, you're an ..."
"I'm an ...?"
"Amazon"

Another chapter completed and in the same week too J hope you enjoyed this revelation especially since I tried to keep it under wraps. I kind of wanted this story to hook you in without giving much away because I loathe loathe loathe when an author guide my perspective on the book too much. I want this to be a journey that has you on the edge of your seats, that keeps your interested and at the same time allows you to enjoy the twists and turns.
There will be plenty of stuff to untangle in this story and this being 1 (or two if you count the babies hehe)
Until next time J
