"What's the rules of being King, Daniel?" his father repeated for around the hundredth time this week. Dan sighed.

"Always be smart. Don't be afraid to be strict. Act regal around visitors. Smile and wave at your people. Find yourself a maiden to love, or a male." Dan stopped and winked, his father huffed, then frowned.

"You're forgetting something, Daniel." Dan sighed again, he didn't think this was correct, but he had to commit. He couldn't let his cousin, Prince Joe Sugg of Oudela, be King.

"Lock up any specials, and look out for the Black Enigmas." Dan finished, annoyed. His father ruffled his head, messing up his hair.

"That's my son." His father said, smiling, "The coronation's next week, so tomorrow, we'll start on your speech."

"But don't I turn King once you're dead?"

"Your mother and I have been talking, we want you to get an early start, so the Suggs don't get there first. Plus, I'm fifty, I will die someday."

"But isn't 50 youn-"

"Another rule, don't argue with the King, 'cause in the end no matter what, you're wrong." He said before leaving the room, leaving Dan standing in the throne room alone. A woman a bit older than Dan himself – who was 18 – came running into the hall, smiling and holding a hairbrush.

"Don't worry Prince Daniel! Your fringe will be fine with me!" she said, still running towards Dan. Her long, ginger hair bouncing behind her.

"Tanya, it's fine. I can handle this myself. I'm technically an adult after all!"

"Your Highness, it's the King's orders." Tanya informed, grabbing the nearest chair and pulling it towards Dan. Dan wanted to do this himself, he tried to do this himself, but Tanya had to try and fix it.

"Why can't you try a different style other than a bowl cut? It's not the 1930s."

"King's orders, Master Daniel."

"Tanya, for the sake of pete, try something new. Plus, I'm the new king next week. Don't argue with the King."

Tanya tried to change the hairstyle but none of them seemed to suit Dan; they tried various quiffs, curled and straight, man-buns, no-fringe, but none seemed to work. After half an hour of trying, the Queen, Dan's step-mother, called for Tanya. Dan's mum died when Dan was born, the doctor said she died in her sleep, but they didn't notice the stab wound. Jim, Dan's butler, noticed this, but was caught by a member of the Black Enigmas, apparently with a blue quiff and glasses. The member let him go if he swore he wouldn't tell anyone. Yet he ended up telling Dan, because everyone could trust Dan with a secret.

"Coming, Ma'am!" Tanya shouted, leaving Dan, once again, alone in the hall.

Dan stayed sitting in the chair, thinking about why he was in this position. Why did I have to be Prince of Evernon? He would have loved to sit at home in a normal house and do absolutely nothing all day, but instead he has to follow rules, learn pointless facts and skills that he'll never use, be obedient, and be an example to the rest of the kingdom. Oh how Dan wished for a day, only one day, he could be normal, where he could live without the fear of being assassinated by rebellious magicians and no one to protect him.

Dan also wished he could be treated like an individual and an adult. Whenever someone referenced him, they say 'The Royal Family', which he hated with a passion. Why can't people see him as just Daniel, or even Dan? Even when people say Prince Daniel to his face, Dan's whole body tenses up, making him want to punch them in the face – and hard. He just wanted to do normal things on his own, without having to have maids and butlers do it for him – like styling his hair and making cereal – simple things.

"Daniel!" a female shouted, the seriousness in her voice made her sound mad. Dan could tell this was his step-mum, and he was lucky that she wasn't like the ones in the fairy tales Tanya used to read to him when he was an infant. They were scary and evil, generally they had ugly features to them, especially on their face, making the reader think that their husbands are blind to think they're beautiful. Daniel's step-mother was beautiful, and everyone knew it. She caked herself in makeup, when she should just throw it all in the bin, because her spots would go. She was the ideal weight and had the ideal body shape. Her name? Anastasia Millard, but for all the years that Dan's been alive, she's been Anastasia Howell. But Dan constantly wished she would leave Evernon, and eat some of that make-up, because she really isn't beautiful on the inside. She would scream at Dan if he missed a home-schooling lesson, if he didn't finish his homework or eat all of his dinner, and – of course – if he back-chatted. Dan didn't think she was as nice as she seemed when he was a kid, she used to be all giggly and optimistic, but – to be honest with you – it was probably Dan's teenage years that made her this way, and it kind of became permanent.

"What?" Dan moaned in annoyance.

"Don't speak to me in that attitude, young man!" she shouted, coming into Dan's view, "And I wanted to let you know that the Suggs are coming to visit in a few days, so be prepared. You know we can't afford to lose Evernon to them." And she was right. We were okay at ruling a kingdom, but losing the castle to the Suggs? No one would know where we'd be.

"Ok, is that all? No jobs? No requests?"

"Make some friends, we don't want you being a complete loner." She said before turning around and walking away. Dan sighed and walked back to his room. She was right, he didn't have many friends and needed some – and fast. Hopefully Choosing Day will come in handy, or else Dan could be a loner for the rest of his reign. He also needed a life partner, but he didn't want to worry about it now. Everyone thinks it'll be Princess Zoe, but Dan doesn't really want her, she isn't his type.

But then who is?

¡Hey Everybody!
This is my first fanfiction (well, proper one anyway) *uses party popper* *everyone gains +10 happiness*
I hope you enjoy it because this is possibly one of the best ideas I've had yet (and trust me, there's been a few. You wouldn't want to look at the ideas in my Recently Deleted folder, they're so bad 😂) I would like to thank VegaPancakes - my beta - for helping me edit my fanfiction. You - yes, I see you [insert your name here], reading my A/N - should all read her book Rebellion, it's a phan-fiction and so far I'm addicted, and I'm sure you will too :)
I'm running out of ideas to say to you guys.
Hi
How are you?
¿Como Estas?
I forgot what that means and I'm in top set, which is bad (sorry [insert teachers name here]!)
Anyways plz vote, comment, read my one shot 'Meet Me Under The Cherry Blossom Tree' - I think you guys have read enough fanfiction to know what to do if you got to my Wattpad.
Should we do a QOTD? Yeah let's do one:
QOTD: Do you think that Brendon Urie is da queen? And opinions of Phil's stepmum (or stepmom, if your a fancy American, unlike me, who's an articulate British girl according to my urban friends)?
Thanks in advance for everything! <3
