Chapter 7 - The Junior High Dance ~Part One~

I stood on my front porch gleaming in my baby blue, long, skin tight dress. My stomach tossed and turned. I felt like a seasick kitten.

"Wow. You look gorgeous baby. Ready to go?" Dad said. He was the most important man in my life, no matter if I had a boyfriend or not. I love him so much.

"Thanks dad. I guess." We left the house, and I was immensely sick to my stomach. I couldn't believe I chose to do this. Good job me.

"Ms. Thates just texted me. She asked if we cow go pick up Jack on the way to the dance. Is that okay?"

"Sure I don't care." At least Jack was going to be there. Without him being there, I don't know if I would still in someway, somehow, want to go to this dance.


We stopped at the Thates driveway. Jack waved with a nervous smile. Pretty much every boy I knew was at a one-on-one battle with my dad, in his mind of course. My dad was a MAJOR boy-aholic. Any boy, ever, was a threat to my dad.

"Hi Mr. Evergreen. Hi Cat. You look really nice. Ready for the dance?"

"Hi Jack. Thanks you do too. Not really. All the girls have dates."

"Well at least we can hang out. I don't have a date."

I smiled. "Me neither"

My dad slyly angrily squinted at Jack. I gave him a little to to reassure him me and Jack were and forever would be just friends.

Here it was. Finally. The moment I had been dreading for weeks. My dad waved goodbye to me and Jack. We thanked him and told him it would be over at 11:00. I put my hand on the door and stopped.

I just couldn't. I couldn't be the girl who didn't get asked. The one who was alone. The one who had no friends to be around, because they were all asked.

Jack knew exactly what was going on. He put his hand over my hand, and looked me in the eye.

"Cat, I know you. I have known you. I will always know you. Your fun and funny, and if any boy can't see that, then they were dumb not to ask you."

I hugged him, and with that we were inside the room.
