If there were different bouquets, with different flowers, and different notes, than that would not be strange. What made these flowers strange was the notes. More specifically, the handwriting on the notes. This was penmanship I was very familiar with, one I knew very well. One I was scared to admit I knew.
Chris.
I opened the first letter and the second and the third, each letter saying the same thing....
Happy Birthday to my sleeping beauty. Please wake up for me, and don't miss another one of these. I know you can do it.
I didn't even think about how these past years must have been for those in my life.
Suddenly, I realized something I had not realized before. These flowers were still alive. It was impossible for a flower to survive this long without proper care.
Then, as soon as I realized what this must have meant, the door slowly slid open.
There he was.
After all these years.
He was standing at the door of my hospital room.
He was looking down, and had clearly not heard the news of my awakening. In his hand hung a little teal watering can. I sat up, wide eyes, and shocked.
No words could leave my lips.
He heard my sheets rustle, and slowly shot open his eyes, while still looking down at the floor. His head slowly and cautiously forward me. As he saw me, we both were stunned by the magic of change, and what it did to us both.
"CAT."
"CHRIS."
"Is it really you? Are you really back?"
"I-its me. You, um, well... y-you look different." I managed to squeeze out. It had been four years. We were juniors by now, practically graduating. He had cut his silky brown hair into a quiff, and shaved the sides and back. I imagine he probably grew 6-8 inches. Perfection, 6 feet tall. Soooo heart eyes.
"You do too. I really like your hair long and dark. I brings out your eyes." he said.
I blushed, secretly.
"Are these all from you?" I asked.
"Well, yeah. I thought about you so much when you were gone. I never knew if you were going to wake up, and I felt that it was all my fault. I came here every Saturday, since the day when you left. And watered your flowers. I knew that if they died, my memory of you would, and that could never happen."
That was one of the sweetest things I had ever heard. How could he have thought of me, for so many years. I honestly didn't know how to show my feelings for him right in that moment.
"Chris, that is the most amazing thing I have ever heard. I need you to know that even though it feels for me like the dance was yesterday, I never would have forgotten you."
"Promise me one thing before I have to go now. Come back to Siella high, cause its not just me who is dying to see you."
