"Ms. Mae?" I heard my name for the third time now. "Are you still with us?" I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was a dark brown oak wood in contact with my eyes. Where am I? Was the first question that popped into my head. Oh, yea, at school, now I remember. I quickly wiped my eyes with the sleeves of my jacket. "Mae it's the first day of school and now you're starting!" Mr. Tucker my Math teacher scolded. "It's the first day DAD and you're embarrassing me! I'm just going to the washroom." I grabbed my bag and went straight to the door, but before going out, I added, "Well, I can't blame myself, your class is boring." And I slammed the door so hard. Yes, my dad is my Math teacher, I mean I can't call him dad he was just a guy who donated sperm to my mom's egg, and that's basically why I have his blue eyes. But he was never a dad to me.
I went to the washroom and rinsed my face with some cold water from the faucet. As I was opening the door going out, I heard a loud growl, a very loud growl. I went back inside and followed the sound, I came across the wall. THE WALL. I quickly run towards the boys' locker room which was just next to the girls'. I opened the door, and to my surprise a familiar guy with blood all over his hand was in front of me. "What are you doing?" I shouted at guy who was coming near us. "Mae, please. Go out now." The voice was familiar. I bent down to his face, and to my surprise it was Nathan, my brother.
"Nathan, what happened?" I asked my brother while cleaning his face with damped towel. "Please don't tell anyone." He told me grabbing my hand as if convincing me. "What happened?" And now I raised my voice a bit louder. "Well, your brother here Mae, did something stupid." Said the guy who beat him up, I guess. "Shut up! I want to listen to my brother, not to you!" I growled at him. "Mae, I'll tell but for now, you and Brent should take me home." He said. Now, the boy has his name, Brent. I stood up and tried to lift my brother from the bench we were sitting on, but I failed. "Stop staring at us and try to be helpful!" You know what's upsetting to have two boys that one is injured and the other is just basically stupid? NO ONE WOULD HELP YOU! He grabbed Nathan's arm and went to his car. As we drove out the school, there was a complete silence until Nathan broke it. "Why the hell were you out of your class?" He asked looking at me with his killing stare. "What are you staring at?" I asked him back. "Mae Angelina Carpenter Tucker! You know why I got this?" He said gesturing at his wounds and cuts. "Tell me why you were out and I'll tell you why I got this." He added. "I was out because Math was boring. Happy now?" I rolled my eyes at him. "With who? Dad?" There's that word again, DAD. I'm too drunk with the word dad, ugh. "The last time I checked my schedule, my math teacher was called Mr. Tucker, not Dad." I retorted and rolled my eyes at him again. "Now tell me what happened." I said raising an eyebrow.
"What? You won't tell me what happened?"
"But you told me if I tell you, you'll tell me!" I said slamming the door of our house. Good thing mom was not home. "Did you literally believe me that I'll tell you? How stupid can you be Mae?" He asked me while removing his shoes and jumping to the couch. "OUCH!" He shouted in pain. I let out a small chuckle and rolled my eyes at him, again. "I guess Karma hit you pretty hard, huh?" I smirked at him and went to get some food.
"What the heck are you trying to do?" I asked Brent who was grabbing food from our fridge. "Trying to get some food and eat 'em? Isn't it obvious? How stupid can you be?" He said walking past me with some cold nachos. I grabbed some yogurts and went to the couch where Brent and Nathan were watching Pokémon. "What are you guys? Ten years old?" I said grabbing the remote control from Nathan's hand. I looked for channels that have my kind of movies. But I heard my phone ringing so I quickly answered it. "Hello? What do you want?" I snapped at my phone. "Mae, what are you? A six year old girl?" Nathan and Brent mocked me.What a comeback. "Mae who was that?" Natalie, the girl on the phone asked. "Natalie, I'll call you back." I said hanging up. "You know what, you should get out, and you're not welcome here." I eyed on Brent, tension rising into my brain. They wasted my patience.Back then, I had a disease which was not normal for a girl like me. They called me control freak. Every time I don't have someone's control I get bossy and I yell at them, I get mad, and sometimes, when my patience is tested, I cry and get seizures. But good thing it doesn't happen anymore because I take meds. But it is happening to me right now, I don't know what to do. "Nathan, my meds." I called my brother before passing out.
"Nathan what the hell were you trying to do?" I heard my mom scolding Nathan. I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was a very bright light. Where am I? "Mae? Thank God." My mom quickly run towards my bed and kissed my forehead. "What happened to me?" I asked mom, my voice shaking. "Oh, darling you past out a while ago," She answered while caressing my forehead to comfort me. "You'll be okay, soon." She added and kissing me again before going out of the room and letting me go back to sleep.
I lasted three days inside the hospital after the tragedy. The doctor said I'd be fine and I should take my meds regularly, because if not, bigger problems may cause. "If not just because of Nathan and Brent," I mumbled, grabbing my books from my locker. Yes, I'm back at hell. "Mae!" Natalie shouted from across the hall, running towards me, and gave me a big hug. "Thank God your okay, so what happened to you? Three days you weren't at school." She asked me. "Well, Brent and Nathan kind of tested my patience then I passed out then I went to the hospital then the doctor told me to take my meds regularly then I'm here." I said explaining to her as fast as I could. "Wait, wait, Brent? Brent who?" She asked, stopping me in the middle of the stairs. "I don't really know him, but you know, Brent the tall guy, Brent the captain of the basketball, Brent the famous one, you know, Brent." I said grabbing her arms and continued walking down the stairs. "Like, that Brent?" She said pointing across our point of view where freshmen girls were squealing, whispering, and looking at him with awe. "Yes, that Brent." I assured Natalie.
