It's been three days since Bethany didn't show up to school. "Did you hear anything from Bethany?" Michael asked. He's been asking me the same question the past two days. "If I did, you'll be the first person to know." I said, placing my right hand on his elbow."What's with Michael?" Natalie asked, re-touching her make up.
"Still bugging me about Bethany," I said, applying concealer under my eyes.
"I never knew they were a thing." Natalie said, zipping her purse and grabbed my arms and walked out of the bathroom.
The first three lessons were finish and there was still no sign of Bethany. I wonder where she could be. Just as I was going to the cafeteria, I bumped into a girl who's wearing a black hoodie. "Oh I'm so sorry," I said. "It's fine," She said and walked past me, but before she was gone, I recognized her, Bethany. "Bethany!" I called out. She looked back at me and her normal long blonde hair was chopped off into a messy bob. "Wait!" I shouted again as I was running to catch her up. She run as fast as she could and she went to the bathroom. "Hey," I said trying to catch my breath. "What happened?" I asked as she was removing her hood off. I watched her remove her hood and all I did was stare at her. She's not Bethany anymore. She's not the Bethany that I used to see everyday with a long hair, with make-up on her face. I'm staring to a new Bethany, a horrific one. Scars on her cheeks, black eyes around her eyes, what happened? As I walk towards her, she moved back. "What happened?" I finally asked. "My mom," She said, her voicing shaking with fear then she started crying, sobbing. I slowly moved towards her and embraced her.
Bethany, Michael, Brent, Nathan, and I, are on the parking lot right now trying to understand Bethany's situation as she was explaining things about her abusive, drug addict mother.
Two years ago, her parents was divorced, since Bethany isn't in a legal age yet, she had to transfer states every year to be with both of her parents, and this year, was her first year living with her mother. "At first, she was so kind to me, she cares for me, she cooks for me, but a few weeks past, she started to change, she started shouting at me her mood changes then one day, when she wasn't at home, there was a knock on the door, it was her friend who supplies her drugs, I asked her what she wanted, she didn't reply. I asked her again then she finally handed me a packet of drugs and told me give this to your mom. I threatened my mom and told her to stop taking drugs or I would tell her to the court, I thought it'd work, but the next day she went inside my room, while I was sleeping, she pulled my hair, drag me going to the bathroom and started cutting my hair. The next day, it was the same, she pulled my hair again, but this time, she had this belt with her then she started hitting me, hitting me every where," She said, crying. "You can stop now, we heard everything." Michael said, giving her a hug as she was crying. She wiped her tears away and said, "Im fine."
She may be smiling, but inside she's dying.
