Chapter 1: Leaving The Family.
Moriko
My life used to be great, I had a great family; a mother and father who loved me, a twin who shared my thoughts, an annoying but adorable little sister and the best older brother a girl could ask for. The key term in what I said before was had, I had a great family but that was before I did something reckless which resulted in me in losing them. I told someone my secret.
You see when my brother and I were born something strange happened. We were enveloped in a bright light. My mama told us this when we turned 10, she never told us what it was just that we were special and destined for something great, there was humour in her eyes while she said it so I always assumed she was just joking and that I was a freaky baby. But the one thing she made clear was that I never told anyone and I didn't. Until I met her.
Kathrine was the first friend I ever had, being the princess of the wolf shifters a lot of people envied or were intimidated by me, but not Kathrin. She befriended me.
She was also the reason I lost my family - she was an Empath, a person who sensed and could manipulate emotions. She knew I was holding back from telling her something but didn't push me to tell. Being the stupid kid back then thinking that she was my best friend I told her my precious secret. If only I had the chance to go back in time and stop myself from walking up to Kathrine, things would have been so much more different. I would have never felt the need to run away from my family to protect them. Because of me, my father would never have died and my older brother would never have left.
I still remember the day I faked my death, how could I forget the most heartbreaking day of my life.
Two years ago, standing on the edge, I was ready. If it meant I would protect my family, I would jump. Because of me, innocent people died, suffered and are living in fear. Because of my stupid mistake war stuck and chaos ruled. In that war, my father died and my older brother left. Mama was heartbroken and traumatised, her heart practically shattered when my death was announced.
Now you might be thinking, "Aren't shifters immortal?"
Well, here's why I have to say about that. Shifters age extremely slowly, we do not fall victim to mundane diseases. We are affected by magick, as for silver, it is more like a restraint on our abilities. Wolfsbane is like poison and depending on the shifter, it can vary in effect. Magick affects shifters the most as it's what we are made up of. Disturbing that balance can cause serious re provisions. Anyway back to the story."Moriko, Moriko." I turned around to the direction of where my name I being called from. There I was greeted with the sight of my family. Normally I would be happy seeing them but that day was anything but normal. There wasn't much time left, the hunters were going to be here any second. I could sense the presence of unknown shifters and it didn't take a genius to figure out what they were after...Me.
Looking around trying to gauge where they were going to come from I addressed my sister."What are you doing here Kazue?" My sister looked at me as if I was crazy.
"What am I doing here? What am I doing here?" She gave me the look that explained how conflicted she was. Deciding whether she wanted to kill me or hug the life out of me.
"I've come to stop you from doing something stupid. "
"Kazue there is nothing you can do it just has to be this way," I exclaimed. I remember the feeling of my throat clogging up, the tears welling in my eyes as I stuff helped to keep my emotions at bay and follow through with my plan.
