3 moons later

"Brightfire, why can't we come with you? We're almost apprentices!" Redkit persisted. Brightfire sent her a furious look that kept Redkit quiet. Sunkit purred with amusement as Redkit glared at her.

"Come on Redkit, lets go see if we can find anyone to play with." Sunkit meowed as she led Redkit out of the den.

The kits spotted their next victim like a fox eying a mouse. Flameeye was sleeping in the warriors den, unsuspecting. Redkit and Sunkit snuck up to him. Waiting for Redkit to tell her to jump, Sunkit held her breath as Flameeye made a sudden movement.

"Sunkit, come over here. We can pounce him at the same time." Redkit instructed her sister. Flameeye opened one eye but closed it again.

"Ready? Go!" Redkit squealed and Sunkit pounced onto Flameeye. Flameeye jumped with a start and eyed his two kits.

"Ok, ok, you got me!" Flameeye purred. He nudged Sunkit off his pelt. "Your claws are sharp, Sunkit." He meowed and Sunkit glowed while Redkit glowered.

Sunkit stopped and turned to hear Scorchtongue and Starpaw. She crept up closer and pricked her ears.

"Scorchtongue, he only has a cough!" Starpaw meowed. Scorchtongue shook his head.

"May be a cough but trust this, it could become greencough." Scorchtongue muttered and he shook his head at his apprentice. Starpaw's pelt ruffled at the mention of greencough.

"If Blazestar has greencough though...." Starpaw started and Scorchtongue shook his head.

"We shouldn't think about that just yet. Your right, it could be nothing." Scorchtongue meowed and Sunkit noticed how much older he seemed. Starpaw seemed to do the same as she nudged her mentor affectionately.

Sunkit watched the two walk back to the medicine den.

"Sunkit! What are you doing?" Redkit asked from behind her. Sunkit jumped.

"Redkit!" She gasped as she landed on her paws. A purr rose from Redkit.

"I scared you! You should have seen yourself!" Redkit purred and Sunkit found herself doing the same.

"Kits! Come on!" Brightfire called them and her daughters ran to her.

"How was the border patrol?" Redkit asked excitedly.

"Did you fight the other clans?" Sunkit meowed.

"Did you win?" Redkit asked again. Brightfire purred and answered their questions.

"Good, no, and no." Brightfire meowed. A cough echoed through the camp and everyone looked at the medicine den sadly.

"Poor Blazestar." Brightfire sighed and pulled her kits closer to herself as the thought of greencough crossed her mind.

"Brightfire!" Redkit meowed indignantly as she pushed herself away. Brightfire purred to herself and only pulled the closer and the kits sank into her fur. As they entered the nursery, Sunkit heard another cough as it echoed through camp.
