Chapter 3

"All cats old enough to hunt their own prey come for a clan meeting!" Blazestar called. Cats streamed out of their dens and gathered together.

"Brightfire, why are you licking us? I'm clean enough!" Redkit meowed. Sunkit purred at the sight of her sisters fur, sticking up in all directions.

Redkit turned to Sunkit. "At least you're done already." Redkit meowed.

"Redkit and Sunkit..." Blazestar began and the two kits ran forward before he finished his sentence. Blazestar purred.

"Redkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Redpaw. Your mentor will be Emberfoot. I hope Emberfoot will pass down all he knows on to you." Blazestar meowed.

"Emberfoot, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from Ashheart, and you have shown yourself to be courageous and fast. You will be the mentor of Redpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Redpaw." Blazestar meowed and he coughed before continuing.

"Sunkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Sunpaw. Your mentor will be Coalstep. I hope Coalstep will pass down all he knows on to you." Blazestar meowed and a coughing fit overtook him. He stopped and continued.

"Coalstep, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from Darkflame, and you have shown yourself to be a quick thinker and strong. You will be the mentor of Sunpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Sunpaw." Blazestar finished. Sunpaw and Redpaw touched noses with their mentors and the clan began to chant.

"Redpaw! Sunpaw! Redpaw! Sunpaw!" The clan cheered and the two apprentices proudly looked over the clan.

As the cheering died down Redpaw and Sunpaw ran to their mother and father, their eyes shining.

"We're apprentices!" Sunpaw meowed to them and they looked at their daughters proudly.

Coalstep and Emberfoot ran up to them. "Ready?" Coalstep asked them.

"Always!" Redpaw answered and Sunpaw nodded eagerly. Stifling a purr Emberfoot gazed at the two.

"Lets show the territory first." Emberfoot suggested. Coalstep nodded in agreement and the newest apprentices followed them out of camp.

"Emberfoot, can't we do training first?" Redpaw persisted. Emberfoot looked annoyed as he repeated himself.

"No, tomorrow we can."

"Emberfoot..."

"Coalstep, where are we?" Sunpaw asked. Coalstep sniffed the air, beckoning Sunpaw to do the same.

"That is FernClan. This is their border." Coalstep told her. Sunpaw pricked her ears and heard a bush rustling.

"Coalstep..." Sunpaw meowed.

"Squirrel!" Coalstep meowed to her and he took off after it. Sunpaw stood where she was as he brought it back.

"Wow!" She squeaked out as Coalstep dropped the squirrel at her feet. "It's huge!" Sunpaw exclaimed.

Coalstep purred at her expression. "You'll catch squirrels this big and bigger when I'm done with you." He promised. "Come on, I'll show you the rest of the territory." Coalstep meowed and Sunpaw followed him, knowing that he would make her the best warrior ever.
