Before the beginning of time, before the beginning of everything, before the world became as it is today, there lived a brother and a sister in a red planet called Hera, a hot, hellish and strange world. A world where the sun never sets and molten metal rains from the sky. The only life that could survive on the planet were the corpses.

Their appearance was the same as that of humans.

But their skin was solid, impenetrable. The seemingly fragile layer above their blackened flesh was harder than diamond.

They had powers beyond what any human brain was even capable of grasping.

Powers greater than those wielded by even the strongest and the most fearsome gods and goddesses in our ancient myths.

They needed very little food and water to survive. Food was never a problem. Because they lived on their own kind.

They fed on each others flesh.

Their cannibalistic nature might give one the idea that they were primitive.

But no.

Their civilization was far more developed than you can imagine.

Since the very moment their eyes had seen the light of the mortal world, the twins, Sun and Thanatos became inseparable, as if they were a single soul.

At the age of thirteen Thanatos witnessed their parents being electrocuted to death. She herself nearly lost her life that day too. But unfortunately, luck favored her and she was able to escape death's brutal claw.

Since then their screams haunted her dreams, leading her to dread the moments when she could not but close her eyes. The memories of their horrid and terrifying, unrecognizable faces flashed before her eyes every time she looked at the mirror. She covered all the mirrors in her house and refused to look at her own reflection.

Watching death so closely for the first time in her life Thanatos realized how terrifying and how painful death truely was. But it wasn't the memory of the fear or the pain, or the despair of not being able to live a full life that broke her.

Rather it was what came after the moment her heart danced it's final beat that sent her over the cliff of insanity.

Every mortal is afraid of death.

But for Thanatos the fear was unbearable.

The fear started driving her insane.

To distract herself from the gruesome incident she started practicing dark arts. At first it started only as a source of entertainment, to find serenity. She spent her days experimenting with potions, scavenging across worlds for enchanted artifacts and burying herself in dusty old books tattered with cobwebs.

All to seek a temporary escape from her nightmares.

But as times passed she grew hungry for power. What was once a source of peace and tranquility to her eventually transformed into something more sinister.

She became addicted to the feeling of invincibility magic gave her.

Years later the twins learned to harness the energy of the stars combining dark magic and science. They learned of the system, the mystery of the universe that with the birth of every child a star is born. The being's life force powers the star, giving it the energy to burn for eons. They found a way to absorb energy from these luminous spheres of gas and dust.

Using the energy Thanatos found away to cheat death.

To survive, she harnessed the power of hundreds and thousands of stars, using the life force of others to fill her own.

But each time she used a star it was completely destroyed. The planets revolving around those stars collided among each other resulting in the annihilation of all life inhabiting those planets.

As times passed Thanatos grew more and more powerful. Her abilities surpassed limits. She crossed barriers no other sorcerer had ever dared  to cross before. She became capable of things many deemed impossible.

But for Thanatos impossible was an excuse used by fools and weaklings who weren't ready to pay the price.

To most, fear is weakness.

But for Thanatos, her fear became her strength.

The source of her power.

It was her fear that defeated all barriers standing in the way of her purpose. One of those barriers happened to be her humanity.

Her sanity.

And she used her fear to crumble them both into dust.

The corpses started seeing Thanatos as a goddess and began to worship her. But Sun saw that his sister was no longer the girl he grew up with.

She was no longer the woman who had pushed him to be brave, to be fearless.

She was no longer the girl he could whisper his deepest, darkest secrets to and yet still fell safe.

She was no longer the girl with whom he had shared all his dreams, his aspirations and hopeless ambitions under the sky of an even more hopeless world.

He watched in horror as the power transformed her into a monster who wouldn't hesitate murdering an entire species to sustain her own life.

He could see that she was not going to stop and if she continued to consume the stars the death count would only grow.

And his creation would be the cause of the most massive genocide in the history of the void.

Sun tried to reason with her, but soon realized Thanatos was beyond that. She was too consumed by fear and lust to grasp the gravity of what she was doing.

He realized the only way to stop this insanity was to kill his own sister.

There was a battle between two armies. One of them led by Thanatos, consisting of corpses who were granted eternal life by their queen. And the other led by her brother. It comprised of corpses who had nothing but their conscience to guide them.

But his army was no match against an army that could not be killed.

Sun lost the war. He fled from Hera into the void using the life force of a nearby star. His actions caused the five planets relying on the star to become completely lifeless.

But he swore to himself that he would return to undo the destruction Thanatos has caused. Since then the whereabouts of Sun have been unknown.

And that, was before the earth had it's first life.

But this is not the story of the two immortal twins or how their creation destroyed millions of worlds.

This is the story of a child with eyes the color of smoke.

A child born without a star.

A child who defied the laws of the universe.

A child who held the power to set the void ablaze and bring hell down within it.

Picture of Thanatos above.
