A knock on my door signalled it was morning. I was thankful it wasn't Dan that did the wake-up call, it was some other servant. I began to get changed in my casual attire since I had no plans for today, which I was ever so thankful for.
I made my way down into the eating area and saw my mother and father were already there, sipping tea our of their dainty china mugs. As I sat down a servant poured a drink into the mug for me. More came and carefully placed our breakfast in front of us. This is how it is every morning.

There was a beautiful array of foods here. A nicely arranged platter of fruit was in front of me, across the table were croissants and my dad was currently taking off a sausage and egg from a nicely arranged plate.
"Mother, please pass the croissants." My mother did just that. By now the servants should know that this is my favourite breakfast food but yet they still seem to put it far away from me.
I wasnt too annoyed at them because they do their jobs so wonderfully.
I often wondered how normal people can make their own food so early. I can barely function well enough to butter my croissant in the mornings, let alone make all the food and arrange them so neatly. I would most likely burn myself just trying to brew my own tea.

I watched the servants who brought in our food and even glanced into the kitchen when they walked through the door. There was no Dan in sight, but maybe that was for the best.

Before I could really question it, my mother began to speak.
"How did the ball go, Philip?" She asked.
"Very well," I replied. Giving very little away as I began to eat, knowing full well I couldn't talk with my mouth full since that is not proper etiquette. My father sighed and glanced a disappointed look towards my mother.
"You need to find a princess soon Philip," she told me gently.
"Not this again." I sighed, I had been hoping to avoid this conversation today. Especially after meeting Dan, I didn't want to slip up.
"Phil. Your mother and I are worried that you won't find someone to rule the kingdom in time. You are our only child." My father cut in. He always brings that last part up, which infuriates me! I knew it wasn't their fault I was an only child, they decided not to have any more after my mother nearly died during my birth. It had been a huge decision but one they believed was right. This is why I need to try so hard to fall for a girl, or at least, fool everyone into believing I loved her. Which was unfair for the girl if you think about it and a part of me wants to find someone who purely wants to be queen and not someone who truly loves me.

"Yes. Yes. I know. We have been through this so many times," I told them in exasperation.
"Then you know to try harder." My fathers cutlery scraped against his plate as he aggressively cut his food up. My mother glanced at him and clicked her tongue, he immediately stopped what he was doing.
"I have already talked to every princess from almost every country on the land! What more do you wish from me mother and father?" I asked them both, dreading what answer they would give.
"You will attend a ball tonight and by next week we will hold another," Mother told me. "You have until then to choice."
"Fine." I clenched my jaw and put down my croissant, I took extra time as I dabbed my mouth with the edge of my napkin. "May I be excused?" My parents nodded and I quickly left the room.

I went to my room which was something I hardly did during the day. A servant was cleaning it but I quickly dismissed them. I lay on my back in bed and thought about what my parents had just told me.
"Philip," I looked up and saw my tailor at my door.
"Yes William?"
"Your parents asked me to assist you in preparing some clothes for tonight," He explained. I closed my eyes and sighed.
"You know what my measurements are so please find something for me." I leaned up in the bed to look at William properly.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, you know what I like. I trust you to pick what is best."
"I shall do my best," he told me before leaving.
I had never not been present at an outfit fitting before but I knew he could handle it otherwise I would not have asked him. He had been my tailor since I was younger, he was the only servant that I talked to regularly and I enjoyed the conversations with him (although many were short lived.)
However, today I didn't want to see or speak with William because it only made the ball seem closer. I had to choose a possible wife within just one week and I didn't even know where to begin.

AN: will Phil find a potential wife at the ball? Or will he find a servant instead? ;)
