"Philip! How dare you bring this man back here," my father boomed at me as I walked through the front door. Dan and Ella stood either side of me.
I was terrifed. We had talked about this interaction the entire walk home but I never realised how hard it would be until I was stood in front of my father. He wasn't muscular but he was very tall and seemed to loom over me, his mouth set into a stern line and his eyebrows were angrily drawn onto his face.

"You'll have to get used to him," I said, trying to stand my ground.
I gulped before I grabbed Dans hand and intertwined our fingers together. My palms were sweating but thankfully Dan didn't seem to mind.
"What is this?" He questioned us and stared at our hands.
"I am in love, father." My voice trembled as I tried to push my words out.
"With Ellanor maybe, but not with a boy," he said the word like it was filthy, wrong. "What will the village think of us?"
"If you'll pardon my interjection, sir," Ella cut in and my father's angry gaze turned on her - although it did soften slightly. "The village will not know. Philip and I can hold a fake marriage and afterwards Daniel and Philip can be together without any complications."
"Is this really what you want?" My mother turned to me. Her eyes were still puffy from the endless crying she had endured over the past few days.
"More than anything," I replied and my mother smiled slightly. She must've seen the look of love in my eyes and the pain I was going through. If they tried to keep us apart I would run away again, somewhere no one would find us. I think she knew that.
She turned to father and nudged him. He shook his head and stood up straighter as if that was going to deter me onto the "right" path.
"Father, I need you to be okay with this," I begged.
"I am not okay." He paused, he looked at me and then to my mother. He let out a puff of air through his nose. "But I will allow it."
"Thank you!" I let go of Dans hand and hugged my father properly for the first time in a long while. I pulled away after a few seconds. "I have one more request."
"What would that be?" Father asked and for a moment I thought I was pushing my luck but this was important.
I rememebered Dans family. How tired his mum looked and how hard she worked.
"Dans family need a better house and we have to support them. They shouldn't have to work as hard as they do," I said firmly and my father nodded his head.
"I'll see what I can do." He didn't look overly pleased but he wasn't yelling anymore and I was happy about that.
He looked around the place for a second and sighed. "Maybe change wouldn't be too bad for this palace," he told me, sounding defeated. "We'll have to sort out a public and private wedding. You won't have to marry Ellanor officially and she can choose to marry who she wishes in the future but she has to stay here. We'll discuss it tomorrow morning. I have work to do." He slumped off upstairs and Dan and I kissed.

"Did you hear that Dan?"
"I was right next to you when he said it but I'll never be tired of hearing it."
"He's letting us be together." I leaned into his chest so I could hear his fast beating heart. "I love you."
"I love you too."

I pulled myself away from Dan and walked over to Ella. I grabbed her hand and laid a kiss on it.
"Thank you for everything."
"It was my pleasure." She flashed me her signature smile and I just knew everything would be alright.
