Carmen had missed a few days of work before Thomas had deemed her well enough to go back. That was one of the advantages of having your husband as a boss, you could have as many days off as you wished. She tried to take it easy around work, she wanted to be extra careful now that she knew she was pregnant. She didn't want to risk doing anything that could potentially put her pregnancy at risk. At work, she normally lifted heavy things and served the coworkers coffee. Instead, she was assigned the task of typing up important documents for the company, sending important e-mails to people that they were planning to do partnerships with.
"Babe, you can take a break if you want to. You've been working your butt off all day." Thomas said to her, concerned. "No, it's fine. I like doing this. I don't have very much more to do, I'm fine." Carmen replied, her eyes fixated on the computer screen. Carmen was a workaholic. If she wasn't working, she wouldn't know what to do with herself. The person she was now was a far cry from the person she used to be. When she was a vampire, Carmen hadn't worked a day in her life, mainly because she didn't need to. Everything came to her easily. "Babe, take a break." Thomas urged her. Carmen turned around in her chair to face him, giving him a smile. She stood up. "I know you want me to take it easy and not overwork myself. I promise you, I'm fine." She leaned in and kissed his cheek gently. The two generally tried to keep their public displays of affection to a minimum at work. Work was work. Work was a place for professionalism. Carmen sat back down and resumed typing up e-mails. Thomas walked off and continued checking on the other coworkers, knowing that arguing with Carmen over this was going to go nowhere.
Carmen eventually completed off of the e-mails that needed to be written. Her break was way overdue. She stood up from her desk and walked over to Thomas. "I'm going to go outside, get some fresh air." She whispered into his ear. Thomas nodded in return. She needed the fresh air. Carmen grabbed her purse and exited the building, stepping outside. Winter had just ended, and it was now spring. The weather was getting a bit warm, but there was still a nice breeze. There was a giant gust of wind, causing Carmen's luxurious curls to blow around. Now that she was pregnant, she looked even more beautiful. Thomas was definitely one lucky man. Her job was located downtown, so there was quite a lot of traffic. She watched the cars go by, admiring some of them. Some of the cars looked quite old, and it was amazing how they were in such good shape despite being decades old.
The peace and quiet was interrupted by a fellow coworker who had also decided to temporarily step outside, probably for the same reason as Carmen did. "Hello there." Carmen greeted the woman, politely giving them a smile. The coworker returned the smile. "May I speak to you for a moment, Carmen?" They asked. "Of course." The coworker grabbed her arm a bit too hard, eliciting a whimper of pain from the brunette. "Ow." The coworker lightly released their grip. "Sorry." They mumbled. Carmen attempted to brush it off. The woman usually seemed pretty nice, so perhaps they just weren't having that good of a day or they didn't know their own strength. After all, Carmen was pretty fragile. The woman led Carmen around to the back. "What do you need to talk about?" Carmen questioned, furrowing a brow. "You're pregnant." The woman staring, joy and wonder prominent in their eyes. Carmen nodded in response. "Yes I am."
"I want your baby." The woman said, acting oddly nonchalant, considering the turn that the situation had took. "You can't have it." Carmen replied. The situation was quickly getting hostile and escalating to a dangerous point. The coworker pulled out a pocketknife from their pocket. "Let me take it from you." They said, as their fangs emerged. Carmen let out a loud scream, hoping that somebody would hear her. The coworker got closer to her, and Carmen tried to push them away, attempting to scream louder. She screamed for Thomas, and Thomas heard her calls. The coworker slammed Carmen up against the brick wall, and Carmen tried to keep her away from her as much as possible. Thomas came up behind the coworker and decapitated the woman with his bare hands, splattering blood on the two of them. Carmen gasped and quickly hugged Thomas tightly. "Oh my God." She whispered, nuzzling her face into his black suit. It was a good thing that the two of them were wearing all black today. "Are you alright?" Thomas questioned. Carmen nodded. "Thank you." Thomas kissed her head. "It seems like my background checks have to be more in-depth now." He said, looking down at the body that lay at their feet.
